Read this a while back and kindareallylovedit but I know if I read it again slowly all of its flaws would annoy me.
This is a stalker romance with a HEA. It's not exactly a dark read even though the cover makes it look like one. Hero was on a whole 'nother level with the peeping, but for the most part he did it for the heroines safety... not sure I morally agree with that but he meant her no harm.
And he's a sweet, shy little thing :)))))
(h):“Seriously. Thank you so much. You’ve been the best fake boyfriend a girl could hope for.”
I held my breath as she went to her tiptoes and planted a kiss on my tattooed cheek. She turned and headed toward the bar. [...] I ran my hand down my face. I cupped my throat and felt my pulse hammering like crazy. When I opened my eyes, I locked them with Animal’s who was full out laughing at me. I shot him double middle fingers. I was a goddamn goner.
You see what I mean?? Like I don't hate him at all.
Cute moments aside, the plot is a huge part of the flaws I was talking about earlier. The drunk father revenge thing made 0 sense and should've been scrapped and flushed down the toilet, but somehow got published instead so

I never read anything by Debra Anastasia and now I'm waiting to see what she releases next! I listened to the audiobook and WOW! Both Muffy's and Zachary's performance were brilliant and completely brought the characters to life!
There is so much more to the story than what the blurb shares and its one I couldn't put down! Nix is an anti-hero who will draw you in and you'll completely fall in love with him! Becca is a strong, independent and smart woman. The two compliment each other in various ways and bring out the best as well.
The secondary characters are also great! I'm really looking forward to Animal's book! We got to see different sides of both Nix and Becca through their conversations and interactions with the secondary characters which added volumes to the story!
Narrator's Review:
One of the many things I love about Zachery's performance and his narration is that he brings a vulnerability to the character with the use of his voice. The vulnerability adds dimension to the characters. However, he still brings the "Alpha Male", strong man performance.
Muffy's able to provide each of the characters with their own voices and tones and OMG, her 'guy' voice is oh so yummy! Her range is great and her performance rocked!!
Overall, a great read that has romance, suspense, humor, little drama considering and little to no angst! The narrators really brought the story to that next level!

This was a real page-turner! I loved the suspense plotline, and despite appearing like a truly terrifying monster, Nix was a sweet and only mildly-insane romance hero. It’s not a particularly gory story, but there were some parts that had me literally squealing in disgust. I love a creative murder scene, and “Mercy” definitely delivers on that front.
One thing that I found absolutely hilarious was that Debra Anastasia named two prostitutes after her and her writer friend. They’re not featured a lot in this book, but boy was that some great comedic relief.
This book is a standalone romance, but we’re introduced to characters who’ll star in the upcoming books. Animal and Ember are so freaking likable that I can’t wait to read their love stories in the second and third books in this series! We’re treated to the scene where Ember and Lock meet for the first time at the end of this book, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I really liked the idea of this book, but there were a few inconsistencies when it came to the characters.
I liked Becca and Nix, and it was interesting to see how calmly Becca accepted most of the things Nix did. I didn’t like how Nix’s character changed throughout the book. He was supposed to be a really good killer (as shown in one of the first chapters), but then there is a scene where he doesn’t do anything. He’s supposedly really good but his father has known about him the whole time while he wasn’t even able to find his father, and when his father goes to Becca he doesn’t really do anything and it ends up being Becca who kills him.
There were a few side characters, but Becca and Nix don’t really spend time with them. I really liked Henry and Animal, so I might try their books but I’m worried that the things that bothered me in this book, will also happen in their books. I really didn’t like Becca’s mother. She didn’t listen to Becca at all and just expected her to follow her rules and ideas about how she should live her life. The only thing that saved her a bit was that she didn’t disown Becca when she decided to do things her way.
The plot seemed to exist and not exist at the same time. At some points in the book, the plot seemed really important, but for most of the book, it didn’t really matter.
I liked most of this book, but there were some things that really bothered me. I might try Henry’s book first as it’s shorter and if that book doesn’t have inconsistencies like this one then I definitely want to continue with this series as Animal seems like a really interesting character.
This is one of the best audiobooks I have listened to this year. I just loved Becca and Nix’s journey and I’m glad they get their HEA. I can’t wait to listen to Animals book.
Good
New to me author. I loved the meaning behind the mask . It was a romance that all started in the grocery stores. I can't wait to see where this series takes us.

This book has a great balance between love and drama, Nix and Becca must face acceptance and forgiveness not only for them but for others, I was engaged since the start and had me until the end. Debra Anastasia has so many different types of books but they are all amazing in their category.

3.5⭐️ SPOILERS!!
“The moon is your crown. You're my skeleton princess."
"You're so sweet to me."
"You are my heart, and this is the first time I've ever thought it was worthy of a beat."
I loved the beginning. The synopsis got me to read this because it starts with “a brief encounter as a children” to strangers to lovers.
Which is a trope that I love:
“He was devotion and I was his religion.”
;
"You saved me when I was kid. Now, as an adult, hope I can give you at least half of the peace your existence has brought me."
-
Ps: The Ml aka Nyx has skull tattoos everywhere on his body including his face, because since he looks like his father, he wanted to look unrecognizable.
The author did a great job in the beginning but as the story goes, the writing seems ‘weird’.
An example:
“He was ready to be inside me. He was
strung so tight, his veins prominent. I'd
reached my peak, of course. Maybe
changed my DNA to be part animal. But he
wasn't done.”
Like how tf can he change your dna.
It felt like I was reading a Wattpad book. But likes non edited story.
When it comes to relationship between Nix and Becca… the pace was fast. But then Becca gets to know what Nix was spying on her and the realization happens around ≈80% of the story. It becomes a deal breaker because I wished that theses kinds of plot line was used at the beginning or even around 60% of the story.
I do have a soft spot for Nix. From a very young age. thus guy has been sacrred and abused and witness his own mother’s death by his own father. And the father going after Becca because she stood up to him and come to Nix’s defence 17yrs ago….
What type of being are you to go after a little kid.
-
I also really like Animal aka Nyx’s brother -like-bestfriend-inseparable soul mates. He is a real one:
"You two look cute together. Bones and Mrs. Bones.” He laughed at his own joke and slapped the steering wheel.’
;
"What's Nix into?"
"He's into you."
;
And Henry (becca’s bestfriend). Her sexual innuendos:
‘Henry pulled me into a hug and my wing poked her face as her wing did the same to me. She mumbled into my ear, "This is why it's hard to be sexual when you're an angel."
-
I also like how vulnerable Nyx is around Animal and Becca:
‘I reached toward her with my open hand. If
she wanted it, she could have it. My hand.
My heart. My life. She took my hand, and
that was enough.’
;
“She calmed the chaos in my head. Her skin, her scent, her heartbeat. She was my talisman. My fortune.”
And when he saved the little girl, Christina:
"Skeletons are superheroes too?”
-
Becca really got skull tattoos over her body and face to show Nyx about her feelings and her devotion to him:
"You've covered yourself to hide. And I'll cover myself to join you." I dipped her before our next kiss. Ink and our love would last forever.
