Wow, there are some very scathing reviews of this book out there. How it is a rip of of the Lord of the Rings series. I will admit that while i was listening to it. (did this one audio book) i was occasionally inserting the hobbits in my mind.

Now i originally read this book many many many years ago. I think before i did LOTR. So back then the similarities did not register. But this time through it did. Is it a blatant rip off? Who knows. I did my best to stay in the here and now of the book and i enjoyed it for what it is.

I will admit that i prefer Brooks writing style to Tolkien. I personally find Tolkien dry. Now before all you purists have me burnt on an alter remember. I am entitled to my own opinion on these things. Even if they are wrong in your eyes.

This book is not bad. The story is acceptable. It has to be right, because it is a copy of greatness.
Let it go folks.

It is good vs evil as i would say 95% of all fantasy writing is. Good wins round one with many casualties as happens in 95% of all fantasy writing. If you look deep enough you can make a comparison to Star Wars here as well. A good accountant can make the numbers say what you want them to say.

If you didnt like it that is OK. If you did like it, guess what, that is OK as well.

I liked it. I freely admit it is very much like Rings. Still, the sun will come up tomorrow and i will be on to another book. What about you.

Since I did watched the TV show and I loved it.

Also, my mom did recommendation this series book to me.

So, this book. I have lot learned about history of Allanon, Flick, Shea, and others. Just because I did watched the TV show and I had lot of questions about it.

I can see that Shea and Will has common is ignore the order whatever someone give a order to get something. They just make a decide on their own choices. Like Allanon told Shea and Flick that they have to leave the town to go to other town for safe but they didn't listen to him until something happened to them. For Will, Allanon was dying and told him to go to Amberle but Will didn't listen to him, he decided to search for herb to heal for Allanon. Then and he found out that Allanon can healing by sleeping. (That is part of tv show.)

Now, I can't wait for next book! :)

OH, for all the people who said this is SAME as LORD OF RINGS!

Let me tell you.......THIS BOOK IS BEST than Lord of Rings and Hobbies because I CAN'T FINISH READ THAT DAMN BOOK! It's worse. I don't think this book is same as Lord of Rings.

SO....stop compare both! Jeez!

Chanced upon this and am glad I did. Brooks is like a trimmed down version of Tolkien. I'd beg this as a must-read fantasy book.
adventurous slow-paced

I didn't like this book. the story is a poor imitationof the lord of the rings, most of the characters are meh, the conversations suck. its annoying when a character leaves out details because they're in a hurry but then begs for patience when another character tells them to get to the point. i think the descriptions of body language and facial expressions is also nonsense, people hold stupid grudges over nonsense. im just mostly irritated while reading this. there isn't a woman until chapter 25 and she is basically just a swooning trophy. pretty disappointing.

This is the fantasy book that got me into fantasy. I will always love it. Some people say that it'd a blatant rip off of The Lord of The Ring's, and to that I say, "I Don't Care." I read this book before I even knew what TLotR was. It's fun. The characters are likable. The story is good. Just sit down and forget about all the other fantasy you've read, because if you can do that I think you will enjoy what's here.

The story thing read as a knock-off Lord of the Rings, yet with hollow characters and no world building
adventurous mysterious tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I don't know how to feel about this book overall. It was so obviously plagiarized from Tolkien's work that I'm genuinely shocked.

If it wasn't for the lack of uniqueness and the annoying convenient Shonen style plot points, it would've likely been a great read, but as it stands, it's just good. It did have a few really good tense and exciting moments.

Overall, as an artist myself, I can't respect this novel.

If you liked Lord of the Rings, you will enjoy The Sword of Shannara; whether it’s the battle between a resurrected dark lord, the corruption of a king’s mind by a treacherous advisor, or the small band of fighters united in a fellowship-esque menagerie set on a journey to find an important talisman, the comparisons are obvious. However, the story is still compelling and a nice escape from the rest of the world.

DID NOT FINISH

Couldn’t get into it. But I’m also not a fan of Tolkien either.
