DID NOT FINISH

Couldn’t get into it. But I’m also not a fan of Tolkien either.

I hate giving a low star for this book. I listened to the audio book and had hard time pushing through. I am going to try the next one to see if gets any better.

So.many.words. I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did, but it seemed so derivative of Tolkien's classics, and so often too wordy. I liked the characters and the story, but it didn't really take off until the last 150 pages. The resolution was satisfying, but while it obviously leads to a sequel, I don't feel compelled to read further into the saga.

I realized this morning what a colossus waste of time this book going to be if I'm only 9% through and already hate the writing. I have good books on my list, just waiting to be read!

The writing is painful, inexperienced, and sloppy. I feel dumbed down just reading this book. Let me just give a few examples.

"... Shae said, nervously (worriedly, excitedly, frustratedly, angrily, fearfully, sullenly, meaningfully)". The words are meaningless, and each character flippity flops personality wise to... What, create tension?

Another source of large irritation: the many passages (at the beginning of an epic story, mind you) elaborating on their adventures thus far. How much they've learned, how tough its been, how weary they feel. You would think it was the end of a harrowing series.

I won't delve much into how uncreative the story itself started out, since honestly, that bothers me less than bad writing.

Unfinished.

Yeah. This is me giving it a second go.
I tried to read this shitty LotR rip-off suppository of a book a couple of years ago. It didn't go well.
I only made it to page 200 before I decided it was time to stop choking on my own saliva.

And now here I am; giving it another chance; harassing myself into liking it.

Wish me luck...

An eternity later...

I'M DONE!
I. AM. DONE!

I wish I cool say something cool like "review to come", but who am I kidding?
The long, arduous process of forgetting this mess starts NOW. I may come back to poke some fun at it, since calling it a LotR rip-off is flattering it.
Chances are I won't come back.
Ever.
