IT IS LITERALLY 1:30 A.M. AND I JUST FINISHED THIS.

Like watttt this book was soooo not what I expected… and sooo good?!??!?

I mean the unexpected level of WORLD BUILDING in this. The MORALLY COMPLEX characters. The freaking extreme PLOT TWISTS that had my head exploding!!!??

But what really made me LOVE this book was how I never really had a full grasp on what was happening?!? and the plot was constantly changing making this book truly like NOTHING I’ve ever read before … and o.m.g it was just AMAZING

loved this! stayed up half the night to finish it, no regrets.

like it was fine??! it was the same author as the savage and the swan which i LOVED but this one was a lot of the queen getting kidnapped and the wrong guy getting the girl and it made me sad, starting book 2 with high hopes tho
emotional hopeful fast-paced

I loved this book, if nothing else its originality. I admit I was torn and frustrated between who I preferred not being a fan of two love interests, it grated on me that I was on a rollercoaster ride of feels. Audra is an interesting yet sometimes unlikable heroine who shows her power and is still growing up as a queen. I'm rushing head on to the second book. There is so much more to unravel as hinted all through this first book. This is the first book I've read from Ella Fields, she is now firmly on my radar and I will definitely look out for her books.

Riveting! I consumed this book in 2 days. Stayed up until past 4am just to read. I typically loathe alternative narratives but this really worked. The suspense of the plot and how the author unraveled why the king was so cold was interesting and moved along at a speedy pace. This book did not drag at all! Side characters were there, not overly complex. I find it soo hilarious how she admits to not knowing insignificant people's names. My only critique would be that the fantasy elements, seemed rather explained and superficial rather than truly embedded if that makes sense.

Dark- Yeah there are dark themes. I'm so glad it isn't descriptive of the gory elements.

As for the romance -I really went through a rollercoaster there. I went from rooting for the king, to absolutely not. The romance had depth, of course with LOTS of lust and smut. I got really nervous that it was going to be a harem or why choose. Happy for the FML's character development by the end and how the ML helped her. Zad deserves to be loved! Total green flag.

I wish the story were longer tbh, I enjoyed Zad and Audra so much! It's in my top 3 reads so far this year! I'm immediately already reading the next book~
