Warning this is definitely for 18 years and older. A King So Cold follows a young and cold Queen named Audra. Her husband, the King betrayed her and is now in exile. News of his upcoming nuptials finds Audra and she goes and gets the exiled King. He cannot remember his life before Exile and she tells him stories of how they met and fell in love to make him remember his self. Meanwhile a war is brewing and Audra is stringing along Zad. What will happen?
I have been wanting to read A King So Cold for the longest time and finally broke down when I got Kindle Unlimited again. This book is dark and erotic. It makes you sympathize with Audra who is a twisted and dark queen. I can’t wait for the sequel.

It’s not it.
I wanted to like this book but can’t understand all the 5 star reviews. The main character is absolutely awful with no redeemable character arc. The love triangle is just not it. The man that ends up being her mate had zero chemistry. Aside from a few good spicy scenes and an interesting world, i left this book extremely disappointed.

I really wanted to like this book because it had so many elements I enjoy: romance, fantasy & magic, love, betrayal, redemption, but the execution was off and the characters kept up a cycle of betrayal and redemption that seemed to never resolve until suddenly there's an HEA (happily ever after).
If you enjoy the "anti-hero protagonist" trope give this a shot. You might enjoy more than I did.

I opened this book, read the first paragraph and closed it so many times.
It surprised me! It was really good.
Not a 5 star like I gave a Court of Thorns and Roses but a solid 4 star.
I love it when it’s not insta-love or at least you have no idea. At the beginning you have no idea what her game is.
The reason it’s a 4 and not a 5 for me is I love me some sexual tension and while this book had it - it wasn’t as spicy as my 5 stars usually go for.
Really great plot though.

To all Age Gap trope lovers! (I feel like I’m making an announcement
I do not read a lot of fantasy books, but Ella Fields has hooked me with her first furore in fantasy. A King So Cold surprised me in the best way and I loved it.
This story was intense from the very beginning. It's dark, gritty, and completely magical. And it wouldn’t be Ella Fields without her unique brand of angst. The characters themselves are complex. On one hand, they are cruel and horrid. And on the other, they are caring and devoted. There's so many truths and lies within this tale. Who to trust? Who is the villain? Not to mention the twist and turns. Truly mind blowing. Even if fantasy isn’t your usual go to, this book undoubtedly grabs you and never lets go.
I am deliberately keeping this review vague, because I think this is one of those books where it’s best to go in as blind as possible. The best way to experience it first hand; the romance, the characters, the wizardry and the magic. Sublime writing, strong characters and an addictive storyline. A King So Cold will grab your attention and take you on fantastical journey.

I like reading about a main character who isn't perfect. A character who is kind of dark, emotionless and badass. Audra was amazing and there were times that I didn't like her... which makes her character even more amazing! She seemed human and real, and I really appreciate that out of a book.

I liked the sort of love triangle, and I will warn you that there are erotic/adult themes, and some TW scenes in this book (so you know... be aware of that)
If you are looking for a dark, sort of love story, main character is kind of an antihero thing... give this a read!
I’m going to have to come back to this one at a better time I think. Right now it’s a DNF for me, I simply could not get into it and was honestly confused from chapter one, it felt like I was coming into the middle of a series that I knew nothing about. I love the fantasy genre but when I’m only to chapter two and already not feeling excited then it’s time to set it aside.
Audra, step on me
Only monsters reside here.
The thing about Audra is that she's driven. That also said, she's so unapologetically herself, which makes her wickedness and confidence standout. I also love how she's comfortable being sexually active.
Audra's character was very consistent throughout her development. Just because she gained a lover didn't make her nice or anything but wicked. She's still the complex, flawed, and that anti-heroine character I loved. She was consistent throughout the story and stayed true to her character.
I love how Ella Fields executed her sexual rendezvous and it didn't diminish her worthy and her capability as a ruler and I didn't see (or maybe I just don't remember) anyone using her sexual activities as a reason of her incapability.
The writing was superb as well. Audra's witty and quick comebacks has me highlighting everything. It literally kept me on my toes. Ella Fields has a way of writing thing this story with you knowing everything yet you couldn't quite predict what would happen because the characters are so freaking complex you'd double guess what you predicted in the first place.
And that's what makes it awesome for me.
But let me be clear, I'm not a big fan of love triangles. However, I can clearly see who I should root for and *fingers crossed* this wouldn't end up like a Feyre-Tamlin trope. I hate that.
I can't wait to read the next book.
"I'm me," I said with cold finality. "I'm just me. Like it or don't, but don't you dare try to change it or say you weren't aware."

Fantasy is not my typical read but...
I enjoyed this story, Audra is definitely a cold hearted Queen except when it comes to Zad.
I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.
