A King So Cold

Ella Fields

3.57 AVERAGE

4.25/5
- tw violence, gore, rape
- I wish the cover wasn’t so underwhelming because this is a RIDE
- ella fields and DARK(!!) royal fantasy was something I didn’t know I could enjoy but she has a tendency to make to my least favourite romance tropes enjoyable to read
- Dark? Royals? Na fantasy? Amnesia trope?? hate all of that but altogether, here, by ella fields?? Bearable
- Truly what can’t she do
- As mentioned, this is a dark, royals, fantasy so by all means I don’t personally condone the more theatrical nee aggressive actions of the mc (and man audra is nuts) or the pairing between each other
- It’s purely for third party entertainment you know
- Audra is the icy cutthroat violent dark fantasy mc that i *think* people have been asking for
- Quite honestly a fun read, at least for me coming out of a slump
- The regular romance with a bite from ella fields with a refreshing change stepping away from a contemporary setting
- Honestly if you’re someone who likes all the tropes aforementioned, I can’t not see this being a perfect read
- Will continue to read everything she writes tbh

4/5 Stars

While I liked the book, it definitely went a direction I was not expecting it to go in.

It definitely wasn’t your clean cut “this is the love interest, the book will be predictable as she will end up with him” - it was a lot more complicated. At first I didn’t really enjoy this but towards the end I actually began to become more and more interested in which way the story will head.

There were a few surprises that hit me in the face; I had no idea they were coming! They made the book much more intriguing and fun to continue reading.

Cruel women protagonists are my weak spot so I naturally gravitated towards Audra and took great pleasure in reading her perspectives.

Stars ~ 3

Maybe I was just sleepy the entire time I read this book but I found it somewhat difficult to follow at points.
That being said, it was good and the plot was intriguing.
Audra and Zad remind me a lot of Rhys and Feyre from [b:A Court of Wings and Ruin|23766634|A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1555221560l/23766634._SY75_.jpg|25126752].

I enjoyed the book but I definitely struggled with feeling as if I had to read and reread sections just to grasp what the author was saying.

The characters felt a bit shallow to me and world building definitely needs some work. I loved how the author threw us right into the book and definitely got the SJM vibes but it was lacking some development.

Fantasy f*cking romance for the win! Extra sexy, extra dark, and completely mind-blowing

WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS BOOK?!

I LOVE IT!!!

So….. Fantasy Romance is my favorite freaking genre. But finding books in this category that are as dark as I want, have as much sex as I want, and actually have a great fantasy world are few and far between. I have only read 3 this year that have hit every box that I want them too. This one lived up to it and more. I freaking devoured it and I want the next one so badly. Even though this one had an HEA… there is definitely some unresolved issues and I want more!

Give me MORE, Ella Fields!

The way that the twists and turns came about was like a runaway train. Audra is a viscous, powerful, hurting woman. She has been betrayed by the one person she allowed to worm his way into her heart.

She is making do, but it is a half life.

She is the Queen of Winter without her King.

But is her King who she really needs?

I don't want to write a spoiler review, because it would be a novel in itself. If you are coming here because you need to be convinced…. Well, read it!

It is brutal, sexy, clever, harsh and fantastic. You are entering into a ride from the first sentence. We literally come into the story watching Audra go at it with her f*ck buddy, yet she is still yearning for her treacherous husband. She wants revenge and wants him to suffer.

I loved Raiden, and I want to more about him.

I loved Zad, holy moly, I did not know I would love him so much.

The layers to this story and the twists that it took were just… wow. I've never read anything like it.

I'm going to go moon over these characters some more.

Did I mention there is lots of sex? But its not erotically detailed, there is just plenty of boning. Haha!

Go read this book if you like Fantasy Romance. If you liked Fortuna Sworn, or want a darker ACOMAF. You will not be disappointed.

TW: Assault, torture, blood, and gore.

5/5 Stars!!!
adventurous dark emotional fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I won't lie, this is a pretty violent book. It was cool that the MC owned her power and brutality rather than hiding from it.

There was a moment where I very nearly DNF this book, when a passing comment mentioned the age of consent was when they reached maturity - or when they bled which made me incredibly uncomfortable. I don't get why it would be so young for near immortal creatures?

I only continued as it was towards the end of the book and all the characters were adults.

*chef's kiss* We're all team Zad, right?

ok so if it wasnt for the age gap i probably would give it 5 stars

“If you let them see your heart, do not complain when they tear it apart.”

TW: dark themes, torture, abuse, rape. (18+)

it took me around 100 pages to actually get into this book, know who the characters were and what was actually happening. however, once I understood I was hooked !!!!!!

the twists and turns were brilliant - the storyline itself was great and I loved it. I also loved the flashbacks and how every so often we got a chapter from another perspective.

the romance was fabulous too, I loved it
