my god, i pulled an all nighter for this one.
i adore a good love triangle that gets me emotionally distraught. i definitely found myself torn between raiden and zad, both characters consumed the hell out of me. not to mention a ruthless badass queen, LOVE her.
my first book read by this author and definitely not the last. the visionary this story holds was memorable.

5 stars ✨ you GUYS ! This book.
Wow. The world building, the writing, our lovely evil heroine Audra, and all the other amazing characters in this book. I am utterly and completely hooked! I had no idea where the story was going for most of it, and I was shocked by some of what happened at least a few times over. I ALMOST docked 1 star because the end did feel a bit rushed and ONE thing Audra did at the end that pissed me off to no end. Like WHY! But I digress. Fantastic book. Absolutely pulled me out of my reading slump and kept me up until 6am to finish!! Off to speed read book 2

dnf @ 14%... couldn't get into it, might try again later
I read this because it was free and didn't have any expectations, but I didn't think it'd be THIS terrible and disgusting. I wanted to throw up a few chapters in (let's just the main character has someone's excrement and urine forced down their throat for NO REASON), and to say the Queen is an immoral person is a huge understatement. This is the first book I've ever read that's made me want to bleach my brain to forget what I read. If I wasn't so determined to not DNF books anymore, I would have deleted this off my phone after reading the first 10% of the book.
I think this book is problematic for a bunch of reasons, but the main one would be the excessive cheating, which is glorified along with cruel and illogical behavior in characters that never redeem themselves. Oh, and the Queen is a teenager when she sleeps with her much older trainer, then marries the King (who's in his 50s) and is lovers with the Lord (probably hundreds of years old) who had a thing for her mom, who he knew well. The book ends when she's 21.
The rest of the review hidden for spoilers:
The Queen in a nutshell:
- meets the King for the first time while having sex with her trainer in a field. Gets up and starts flirting with him immediately, naked, because she's aware that she's the most beautiful woman in the world (literally, the book explicitly states this several times).
- Tortures and kills people for no reason
- Decides to stay with the king who treated her badly because she's satisfied with their marriage, politically, and decides to have the Lord (who she made a vow to marry) remain as her lover. That's the HEA. And this Lord isn't the victim either - if it were up to him, he'd stay married to his wife.
- She cheats on whoever you consider her partner repeatedly. Forges a link with the Lord then tries to have sex with the King. Has sex with the Lord while intent on staying married to the King.
Oh, and the title makes no sense. The love triangle features a king from the summer/sun kingdom (since seasons and the sun/moon are the same in this book?) whose power is fire/heat, and then there's the cold Lord who will never be king because the Queen chooses him while staying married to the King. Who exactly is this cold King? And this book hypes up the King and features a million of their flashbacks and love for each other only for the King to end up being a terrible guy at the last minute and for the Queen to have been "linked" to the Lord since she was 14 years old. And I know I already said this, but the Lord she has the HEA with straight-up wanted to remain married to his wife. Their marriage is only terminated at the very end because the wife didn't want to stay married to a man who was "linked" (soul mates) with someone else. Not because he wanted out of it.
In short: This book is chock-full of cheap sex scenes (coming from someone who thinks [b:Fifty Shades of Grey|10818853|Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)|E.L. James|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1385207843l/10818853._SX50_.jpg|15732562] is a decent book), cheating, cruelty and immoral behavior, and has more plot holes than plot. Oh, and it's so long and wordy that it took weeks for me to get less than halfway through.

A note to the author : MY BROKEN HEART IS YOURS. YOU CAN BREAK IT AGAIN WITH YOUR WONDERFUL BOOKS.
Ahem... Too much? Probably, but I don't care. I knew from the moment I read the blurb and saw the title that this book would be right up my alley. Darn it all, the book clicked all by boxes. Angst, fantasy, steamy romance and twists.
But what made it trully special was the heroine. Audra is my unicorn. She is cold hearted, shaped by her life but so BADASS. She is not a pushover. She is strong, fierce and scorned. A Queen of ice, a woman driven by revenge. A bit confused, guarded and tighly keeping the remains of her broken heart tucked away from anyone who can hurt them.
She loved once, she was fooled once, by a prince from another land. Now he has to pay; at whatever cost.
I don't want to give away the plot because the book needs to be experienced without any hint but I will say that the book is not what it seems. There are so many amazing characters in it and one was my ABSOLUTE favorite. I have so many favorite quotes from this epic read and I can say that Ella Fields is the angst Queen!
"My queen." His breath coasted over my lips, searing. "Your heart is about as good as the existence of your soul-a rotten fucking lie."
Audra is not your everyday heroine. She is a character that will confuse you with her anger and coldness but there is so much more to her. Every story needs a villain, but is she the one in this tale?
The regret caught fire, spreading to my eyes. I squeezed them shut.
Rotten souls did not cry.
I highly recommend this book. It hooked me right from the start. It made me so darn emotional, especially towards the end. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel.
Top read of 2020 for me.
5 Royal Stars!

Good enough to give me a terrible book hangover.
When Audra, the queen of Moon Kingdom, finds out her treasonous husband who is in exile, is getting married again, she kidnaps him. She wants to punish him, but he has no memory of her. With her kingdom on the cusp of war and her longing for vengeance, Audra struggles to be the queen she is meant to be.
This is the first fantasy novel the author has written and she did a great job. The initial part of the book was a bit slow, but it got better and better as I kept reading.
Most of the characters are morally grey and Audra is more of an anti-heroine, which I found quite refreshing. I liked how badass and unapologetic she is.
My favourite character is Zadicus and I'm in love with him.
The plot is fascinating and well thought out.
The world building is good enough to paint a picture, though it could have been a little more detailed.
When it comes to romance, I thought it was more of lust than love. There's a love triangle, which I'm usually not a fan of, but I liked the way it was executed and the end result was satisfying.
There were a lot of sex scenes, but they got repetitive after a while.
Zadicus and Audra start as f*ck buddies but end up in love, so I liked that development.
My heart went out to Audra on many occasions. With a horrible father and multiple betrayals, I saw how broken she was, but I loved the way she came out strong.
There are many twists and everything is so unpredictable.
I enjoyed the magical powers and creatures.
Some parts were very dark and this book brought out a lot of emotions, but it's super addictive.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and excited for the sequel, but if anyone is uncomfortable with violence and sex, then do not read it, because it's full of it.
