This book was everything I needed in the Stillhouse series. I love the Proctors but more so Sam Cade. He had and still has every reason to resent Gwen but loves her and her children unconditionally.

This novel was like a trip back in time through the history books when we learned about Waco. Cults, captivity, sacrifices, punishment and saints. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. I could not put this down.

I cannot wait to get started on the 5th installment: Heartbreak Bay!

Other than the first one, I think book 4 was my favorite so far. It’s definitely the most action packed. As with books 2 & 3, I love how it’s told from multiple perspectives. And I really appreciate the fact that they used the same narrators for the same characters in each book, it really helps me connect with the characters. This one dealt with a cult related storyline, which I found very interesting. The only thing I think could have been done better was the ending. I felt like they didn’t need to wrap the whole book up that quickly. Instead of finishing the ending in the last few paragraphs of the last chapter, they definitely could have stretched it out into a full chapter if not multiple chapter. I would have like to have known what happened to some of the secondary characters. But other than that, this one was one of my favorite of the series. Only 2 books left, and I’m already getting sad about it

Another way too far fetched unbelievable story with massive violence and idiotic people who say they are running from danger but are willingly jumping into something even worse and they know it and literally every other person is a serial killer. It's the same as the first three, lather, rinse, repeat. This series really should have ended at the second book.

Overall plot was good, but it's not properly glued. Middle of the book was so hard to read. I think I didn't read previous books so felt kind of detached with unknown characters dropping in between.

3.5 stars. Relatively predictable but still enjoyable.
