Ugh what the fuck. This was borderline unreadable.

Reread review 6/18/25: stars stand. Based on what I wrote I might have enjoyed this a little more this time around? It just felt very fast paced and like there was a lot going on even though you weren’t really getting answers. I’ll also say there are a ton of Easter eggs hidden that lead to a plot twist I know about since I’ve already read it once
like they mention how her and ares have the same hair the first time they meet and another point he said he’s not interested in someone who could be his twin.
But to summarize. Sloane and Bru come to town after their dad died in a factory fire, a rando who said he’s an old friend of his came in and becomes their guardian, moving them to Mayberry(?) and giving them all they want while also being out of town on business the whole book. The night before they start school Sloane stops a mugging of the school principal and then the legacy boys are out to get her from day 1 because they were the ones trying to kidnap her at that point. There’s some cat and mouse bullying throughout but Sloane and leader Dorian are pulled together. Dorian’s uncle brother (uncle closer in age to him but his parents/dorians grandparents died when they were 10/11 so he grew up in the house with Dorian) Charlie was murdered a couple years ago and Dorian wants all the facts to come out. Charlie and principal Mayberry were having an affair, they broke it off and she told Charlie she’d leave her abusive husband. Charlie came back to visit where Dorian slipped that she never left him so Charlie reached out to get her to leave and when he went to pick her up ended up shot. The boys had another opportunity to kidnap Mayberry and get her to tell the story on camera, they posted on the school’s social media and they separated to hide for a little. Sloane went to Dorian and the cops showed up and arrested him for murder even though he said after they made the video they untied her and left her unharmed. Sloane’s guardian Callahan showed back up in town and was calling her so she asked him for help. It ends with her at the station, Callahan having bailed him out, and that’s where we find out Callahan is his evil grandpa (Royal’s dad from the court high series) who Dorian had supposedly left for dead the week prior after he started threatening him.

Original review:
3.5 stars. I don’t think it’s memorable or good enough to flat out recommend but if someone asks about it I would say it’s a good read.
I do think the way they got together was a little too rushed. Felt like there wasn’t a believable amount of build up, they just were enemies on one page and lovers on the next.
I will say, the ending was wild. I don’t know why I wouldn’t expect the police thing but that last twist? I just can’t begin to guess what will happen next. I want to know but I don’t know if I can read another book if it’s going to be similar.

Both MC are very flawed and drag stuff out. Like any high school romance there’s no communication (don’t know if I’ll continue this series as it feels super dragged out and I already skimmed to know what happened)

There’s a difference from bullying to full out assault and almost r*pe etc. I’m not sure why so many authors are writing enemies or bully to romance books as full out assault books. The over all story line could have been so interesting if it wasn’t for the insanity of how the stupid immature teen boys where acting. Couldn’t get passed that at all. Made it to 37% and just had to stop. Such toxic “relationship”.

4.5 stars. It felt like it was missing something, can’t wait to read book two.

I’m obsessed with this story! I absolutely loved it and all of the games that were played to get her to leave the school. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

I read this in April and I literally can't remember a thing. I had to read a full spoiler review, which reminded me of a couple things...mainly that I need to stop reading books because someone on socials pulled a scene from the book and duped me into thinking I was going to love it.
