A brilliant debut from Hannah Brennan!
What it’s about:
Fifteen years ago, five vulnerable teenagers took part in a life-changing study of OCD. Now, their psychologist has been brutally stabbed and left for dead.
DCI Liz Field and her team have barely started their investigation when there is another frenzied attack. This time, the victim is one of the former patients. Are the others now in grave danger – or dangerous?
But as the DCI is pulled deeper into the disturbing case, it starts to hits too close to home. To outwit the murderer, Field must venture into the last place she wants to – her own buried past…
My thoughts:
This was a fast paced read that kept me guessing right up to the end! I loved that the book began and we were thrown straight into the action.
The story was told through multiple points of view which I liked as we were able to see what was happening from various perspectives.
The author’s knowledge of OCD was clear, and I found it really interesting to learn more about OCD through the characters and the story.
I cannot wait to read the next book in the DCI Fields series.
Thank you so much to Avon books publishers for the copy of this to read. Opinions expressed here are my own.

The story is really intriguing and I was hooked right from the start as you get thrown into the action immediately. It’s easy to follow but multilayered. Short, snappy chapters keep the momentum going and you just keep thinking to read just that one more.
The writing is sharp and to the point. That’s something that stood out to me immediately, I really enjoyed the style. I really liked that the characters were far from perfect and had a lot of depth.
It was interesting to read and learn more about OCD as part of a storyline that was so nicely crafted.
Hannah Brennan is an author to watch out for if you enjoy reading crime fiction. I got very excited to see that there is a second book coming shortly and I cannot wait to read that one!
Highly recommend!
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for this ebook copy of this book.
For a debut novel this was decent and I had a good time with it. However, I didn’t really find this book thrilling and gripping. It was a quick and easy read but it was just missing the thrilling aspect. The beginning was really strong but overall, I found it a little boring in parts.

This was a fantastic start to a new series, I’m looking forward to getting to know Liz Field and her team.
The subject of OCD is interesting and you can tell how much care the author put into each character in relation to this. The differing ways in which it presented was fascinating, especially Callum and numbers. I did listen to this and as great as the narrator was, I felt I kept missing parts, so for me this is one to physically read and I will re-read before book 2.
There are so many red herrings and twists that kept me hooked and the reveal had me shook with they whys? This is definitely a series and author to watch out for.
