I knew nothing of this book which was recommended by a friend. I am not a "horse person" so was skeptical, but the narrative weaves together the stories of several people (and horses!) past and present and I enjoyed it much more than I expected to.
the writing is good, but this just feels pretty disingenuous in purpose and impersonal in execution

On the list of things that I have absolutely no interest in are all things horse--racing, breeding, training, you name it. But if you put Geraldine Brooks' name above the title "Horse," I'm definitely interested. I was so invested in every character in this book--including the aforementioned horse! I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to experience another world as painted by this exceptional author.

I don’t care how much research you do. It feels wrong for a white person to write multiple Black characters POV. 🤷🏻♀️
