An emotional read but a very important one. I’m so glad I picked this book up, as I learnt a lot and it was so beautifully written

I asked for this book because I knew from the title, before I read the summary, that this was going to be about Dr Janusz Korczak. He was a true hero of the Warsaw Ghetto, and a brilliant, and loving man who was murdered by the Nazis along with hundreds of children he tried to save. My #bookreview of this novel is on my blog here.

Good lord. I cannot begin to say what I feel after reading this book. To put it in short, this book shows the persecution of Jews in Warsaw, and how Dr. Korczak kept bringing light to Warsaw in its darkest times

novel based in the warsaw ghetto and based on true events, enjoyed the majority of the novel but felt the latter part of the novel was rushed and didn't fit well with the rest of the novel

Amazing

The story is a time honoured one we're all familiar with from our shared histories of WW2 but it has never been so personal, so detailed and so moving before when telling it of a whole community.

Gifford doesn't sugar coat anything, doesn't make anything more palatable for the reader but she also doesn't exaggerate or over emote. The tone is perfect for the content and the context.

We should all know more about Pan Doctor. We should all live a little more closely to his philosophy.
