Something about the writing annoyed me but it's hard to explain it's kind of a vibe. Like at one point the narrator says "I don't want to talk about it" to the reader and it just felt weird.
Anyway the story was interesting enough and i breezed through it pretty quickly. I'm excited for the movie!!!!

i wasn't ever like surprised by anything in this book. millie consistently just makes poor decisions and she's not exactly likeable either. i don't have much experience in rating mystery/thrillers, but imo this was mediocre. i kind of guessed how this was going to go.the most unbelievable part of this was enzo liking nina and STILL liking her even when nina was like ya fuck that girl millie. idgaf that she's going straight into the arms of my abusive husband. she deserves that shit. girl what.
this was my first freida mcfadden book. i won't be writing her off completely. idk if i will continue this series tho. i might jump to a different one of her books instead

Listen, this book was okay. The story itself was gripping and the cliffhanger has me HOOKED. I feel an insatiable urge to read the second one just so I can see how it all pans out. If McFadden is good at one thing, it would be plot development and diverting twists.
However, the writing itself was bland and lacked substance, and I found it really difficult to take the book seriously because of this. It read almost like a fanfiction to me, and I’m sorry but your story has no credibility when you start toying the line between teenage angst and adult fiction. Is she marketing for young teenage girls or adult women? The lines are blurred where they shouldn’t be.
Anyways, this was not a BAD book. I just think it’s highly overrated. We move :)

I don’t know how else to describe this book other than, it’s pretty cringe and a frustrating read. I thought I would give it a chance because of the popularity but it’s just not for me.
