Summary: This is the third book in The Vampire Chronicles. It's a direct sequel to the second book and shows the aftermath of Lestat's attempts to wake the original vampires. It also brings together all of the other vampires from the previous books as well as some new characters. This one is a lot more action-oriented and closer to an urban fantasy than the first two.

Favorite Quote: ...And yet he loved this thing. He loved its smooth white skin, its great dark brown eyes. He loved it not because it looked like a gentle, thoughtful young man, but because it was ghastly and awful and loathsome, and beautiful all at the same time. He loved it the way people love evil, because it thrills them to the core of their souls. (pg. 92)

Review: This is my favorite Vampire Chronicles book so far. It's less gothic and more urban than the other two, which I liked. I also thought the way the vampires were explained in this was pretty clever. There's always sort of a logical problem with vampires because they can't exist forever without turning a bunch of others into vampires or eventually killing massive amounts of people. This is explained away in a way that makes sense in the world and doesn't feel like a cop-out. The world and the lore in this were very interesting, it made me excited to read more of the series.

this might be the best one yet. yet how dare she, how DARE you, anne rice, to just drop the best most deranged love story in a generation in one almost meaningless (to the plot, to me it’s everything) chapter in this huge book, never to be fully mentioned again? the devil’s minion i love you so much.
it had its issues, as every anne rice novel does. a bit too western praising, a bit orientalist and honestly infantilising of the global east and even smaller western civilisations?? and i still can’t believe egyptian queen and king, fully african enkil and iraqi akasha, of ancient egypt and uruk respectively, were written as WHITE. no they’re not. respectfully, i ignored every mention of their Alabaster skin. it’s a testament to how enrapturing this book is that i’m still giving it 5 stars. that and she referred to Palestine as Palestine which I love

I found this one slower than the first two so it was a little harder to get through but still interesting
