My love for this book stems from more than just Lestat. The passages exploring the lore of cannibalism are stunning. At moments you actually find yourself questioning the right of a foreign queen to come in and establish the practice taboo and illegal. The cannibalistic nature of the tribe Maharet and Mekare come from takes a very humane approach, a very loving one. And to watch them be denied their funeral practices is heartbreaking.
Their story is what makes this book.

Two stars for an interesting story -- too bad it takes so long to tell it.

This book completes the Vampire Chronicles trilogy. Not as good as "Interview with the Vampire" or even close to "The Vampire Lestat". It did bring closure to many questions (like the origins of vampires, according to Anne Rice) although it could have been a better read.
A lot of my favorite characters are introduced in this book and I immediately regretted getting attached. You really get to see the fullness of the vampire world in this book from the ancient ones to the new fledglings. I do love how Lestat's character is consistent. He does not disappoint in being the rebellious, fearless, and annoying at time vampire. He makes no apologies for who he is.
Did I love the ending? Yes. Did I love the Queen? Loved to hate her, so yes. Would I recommend this series? You know it! It was just a great time. I really feel like the books went by faster as you went into the series. This one by far has the widest scope of vampires in it.

This is definitely one of my favorite books in the entire series. I love it so so so so much. It's so tense and still takes the time to meander enough that we get so many different stories and perspectives and we get to spend so much time in this lush, vivid, dark, fascinating world Anne Rice has created. Seriously, even if you don't want to invest the time to read the entire Vampire Chronicles, I think everyone should read the first three books in the series!

I had such high hopes for this book…
I saw a few reviews of how disappointing this book was & still went into it hoping for the best and yet…….. the reviews were correct.
This installment was by far the most underwhelming of the first three books.
MAYBE if IWTV does a season centered around “Queen of the Damned” then I’ll reread it. But, otherwise… I can’t see myself reading this again.
If you watched the movie and liked/loved it, I wouldn’t recommend reading this book… unlike the IWTV film, the movie adaptation of QOTD was not in alignment with the book.
