The attempt at world-building after the fact is messy yet fascinating.
This is without question my favorite book of the series. I couldn't put it down. Fantastic.

I wish that Anne Rice would have tried a different narrative mechanism than "person sits around a table and tells a story" just once. Just one time.
The unhinged racism scattered throughout this book just brought me out of the narrative again and again. It was deeply, deeply strange to make all of these characters white when most of the novel is centred around Ancient Egypt. And then the random rants about Islam and the horrible depictions of cultures from the Global South are completely bizarre.
The story itself was fine, the stakes certainly were a lot higher than in the first two books, but I seriously doubt I will read anymore of this series.
