Lestat opening this book by telling the reader that none of the ppl that comment on his hotness in the book were inserted by him, he’s just that hot, is such a serve.
I kept having such a “is she wrong tho?” Reaction to Akasha’s plan. Like yeah, she’s so petty but like… maybe they should have let her cook some more, yk?
Also! The descriptions of Makare and Maharet’s culture of funerary cannibalism is literally how kuru nearly wiped out a bunch of tribes in Papua New Guinea. Glad I so recently read that book on prion diseases so this was just flashing in BRIGHT LIGHTS in my head while I read this.
All in all, a solid addition to the series even as the clear racism of how the author viewed a lot of civilizations inundated the story.

After listening to The Vampire Lestat, which I enjoyed well enough, I couldn't very well stop there. I needed to know what happened to Lestat after his concert. So of course I picked up Queen of the Damned immediately after finishing that one.
My god, there were a lot of characters in this novel. Thank god for a good narrator of this audiobook (the wonderful Simon Vance). He helped keep up with all the various characters with an impressive array of voices.
The story itself was interesting, in that while it told Lestat's story (intertwined amongst a number of others), the vast majority of this particular novel was told from a variety of others' points of view, which helped keep it interesting.
I enjoyed this novel, but I'm not sure I'll delve into the rest of the Vampire Chronicles for a while yet. Perhaps if Random House Audio continues to put out new recordings narrated by Simon Vance, I might be convinced. I'm not sure I could muster the attention span to sit and read them, though.

Hermoso.

what is this ms rice? I'm not taking it back to uppsala this is precious luggage space
truly a banger for the crossover event of it all. when do i start? lestat was the
diva of the the day as per usual. yet his arc in this was horrificccccc why was anne always putting him through the horrors. more sexual trauma for lestat de lioncourt. many such cases. akasha is fundamentally a great villain in spite of the anne rice orientalism surrounding her (i fear marius was a self insert). but the very basic premise of her plan and her delusion is very interesting and would be even more interesting if the “voice of reason” who calls her out wasn’t an imperialist!!!!!!
i mean i loved all the new lore and characters, loved the twins and layman. loved jesse yn barricade queen. and armand and daniel… i know true love when i see it. devilsminion4ever❤️. give me 100 more right now my stars of the show.
this trend of having zero louis for the entire book then having 1 CRAZY loustat scene at the end that will make you see god. that rue royale visit and the claudia memories killed me.

Excellent continuation of Lestat's story. There was one kind of boring chapter at the beginning (like 2nd or 3rd), but it takes off from there. Lots of new magic. The origin story is now (as far as we know) complete. Lestat is still the bratty vampire. This series is so violent and so sexual. Yet they have none of the awkwardness that most books have with violence and romance. Also, I was really excited that in that very last bit of the book, Louis finally got his personality back.
