jessica and the unicorns are massive jerks to the new girl, nora. like i didn’t really enjoy reading it. the whole book is them bullying her constantly and then in the end them realizing that “oh wait, she’s not a witch at all and we weren’t very nice to her, were we?” not a fan of the illustrator at all - can’t wait for the 5th book to be back to the good artist.

I love this series reviving the classic books, and this is my favorite of the graphic novel series, perhaps because of the themes: Halloween and social pressure from the peers forcing bullying. Being the new kid in school can be challenging, but I love Elizabeth's attitude. The unicorn girls will infuriate you, but I am glad the end is towards a more positive view.
I love the artwork style as well. It's awesome for their expressions. I am looking forward to reading the next one.

I read Sweet Valley books growing up and loved Elizabeth and Jessica. I rarely read graphic novels but I found this one to be fun and enjoyed it. This will be perfect for spooky season. I was happy to find the coming of age themes to be present still, and this book explores the “don’t judge a book by its cover” and “don’t believe everything you hear.” A new student has moved into what is considered the creepy house in town, and rumors abound she’s a witch. She endures some bullying, but the twins step in to help her. The illustrations are cute, and I think kids will like it.

The Sweet Valley Twins books were my favorite series when I was younger, and the books that got me into reading. So when I saw that there’s graphic novel adaptations of the book, I just had to read them.
The Haunted House is the fourth book in the series and deals with themes of elitism and bullying. How getting on the wrong side of the wrong person can make your life a living hell, and how rumors can be very harmful. This graphic novel has done a great job at adapting all of the important plot points from the original book, while also making it feel fresh for the present-day audience.
The artwork is very well done. I’m not too fond of the character design, but that’s just a personal preference. My only big complaint is the fact that the character guide is in the back, and not in the front. I think it would be very beneficial to introduce the characters at the start of the book, both for new readers and to refresh the memory of returning ones.

Despite the change to a different artist, Whittle's illustrations are sleek and complementary to the story and characters. I like the fashions and the anime-like expressions.
Jessica is still a terribly vain, stuck-up child. Her popular friends are the worst they have ever been in this volume with bullying the new character Nora. The Carrie vibes are strong here! Also, ending spoiler: I think Jessica should’ve snitched on her sister to the parents about the bullying, but it is a nice step of agency that Elizabeth apologizes on her own.
I never knew or was interested in Sweet Valley, but I hope the series is building toward character development for Jessica staying to the next book. It would be a unique turn though it will probably keep the status quo for the twin dynamic.
