2.5 Stars. I really enjoyed the dynamic between these two characters, but this book could have been twice as long; there was much more that could have been fleshed out to make a more real & convincing story.
More of Brittany's relationship with her mother, more about gang culture, deeper development of Brittany & Alex as individuals, a more developed picture of Fairfield & Chicago, more more more.
Oh well, a decent book (though it had the potential to be a great book). And a good pick for reluctant readers. Just can't say I'll be reading the rest of the series though-- Alex's brothers are not developed enough in this book for me to have an interest.

I really enjoyed this book, and it definitely got me out of my reading slump that I was in. The funny dialogue had me cracking up throughout the book. There were some cheesy moments and the Spanish in the book was sometimes over the top, but I still liked this book. And can we talk about that little epilogue? I thought it was so adorable. I was definitely left wanting more of a longer ending, but that's typical when I read a contemporary. Overall, this book was great and I'm glad I picked it up.

Este ha sido el que quizás menos me ha enganchado, aunque la trama ha estado bien, aunque en comparación con otros libros que he leido del mismo género y con tramas similares, se me ha quedado corto.
Tenemos a Brittany, la chica perfecta en la relación perfecta (muy típico todo) pero con un secreto por así decirlo (que cuando te enteras de qué es, tampoco es que termines de empatizar con la protagonista, todo sea dicho). Ah, y es rica. (cliché, cliché, cliché). Por otro lado tenemos a Alejandro Fuentes (porque enfatizan todo el rato de que es un Fuentes, blah blah blah), un pandillero de la parte sur de la ciudad, que es bastante listo y saca bastantes buenas notas, todo hay que decirlo. Pues bueno, resulta que ambos se conocen de vista, saben quién es cada uno (aunque no se pueden juntar ni para hablar porque pertenecen a clases sociales distintas, obvio) hasta que su profesora de Química, la señora Peterson (bendita paciencia tiene esta señora) los pone por orden alfabético a trabajar juntos (a toda la clase, digo. Ella es Ellis, él Fuentes, sumad dos y dos). Hala, ya está la historia empezada.
La trama es bastante básica. Lo achaco a que ha sido escrito hace años y este tipo de historias, en la actualidad, son más elaboradas y no tienen un eje central por así decirlo. (Que para quien no se entere, eje central me refiero a que no solo nos centramos en los protagonistas y sus dramas, sino en algunos personajes que rodean a ambos) y es lo que me ha faltado. Toca por encima a la amiga de Brittany e Isabel (dios, como quería que saliera más esta chica) e incluso a los hermanos de Alejandro (aunque luego nos encontramos el por qué).
Y, no sé si es que ya soy yo, o es que veo últimamente a muchos de estos libros predecibles (si lo habéis leido y queréis comentarlo conmigo, lo hacemos, solo enviadme un mensaje por aquí o a mi instagram o lo que sea).
Una de las cosas que más me ha interesado es la pandilla en la que está metida en sí Alejandro (o Alex, como prefiere ser llamado). ¿Vemos algo más en profundidad que el simple funcionamiento de esta? Qué va.
Entretenido, fácil de leer, aunque ponga aquí que tardé bastante (4 días), en realidad me lo terminé en prácticamente un día, en cuanto me puse con él en serio.
Y bueno, creo que hay libros de este estilo más currados (la edición, no sé si es que era mi ebook o qué, pero era odiosa) y las faltas de ortografía. Paso la jerga mejicana, porque a ver, Los Fuentes son mejicanos, la banda se llama Latino Blood, pero no te paso faltas de ortografía y guiones mal colocados. Eso sí que no. Y es que, por culpa de esos guiones mal colocados, muchas veces no sabía si hablaba Brittany o Alex, o Paco, por decir algunos.
Pero bueno, si queréis pasar un ratillo entretenido, este libro puede que os funcione.

I LOVE this book! I've read it two times now and it is still one of my absolute favorites. The chemistry between the two main characters is beautiful. I love how their relationship builds into a deeper connection. I also like the thrilling side to the story.

I had mixed feelings about this one. I flew through it, and it definitely kept me interested. I had some issues at the beginning, getting past the constant "I wear designer everything and live in a huge house"/"I'm a tough gang member trying to keep my family safe" during the first fifty pages. I get that it's all about looking beneath the surface, but the superficial stuff was laid on a little too thick early on.
The middle of the book - fantastic. Alex and Brittany have great (for lack of a better word) chemistry, and I have to agree with all the reviews that call this book "hot, hot, hot." I enjoyed seeing their relationship progress as they got past the assumptions they held, and started seeing each other as people who are more alike than they realize. The last 100 pages or so felt rushed - like she was trying to tie up all the loose ends in a hurry, and different from the pace of the rest of the book. The epilogue was a bit too much for me as well, but overall this was a quick, fun, enjoyable read.
