I get that he was in a gang, but I'm very unhappy with how Mexican culture is portrayed in this book, a lot of the Spanish is spelled or used incorrectly. Beside that, the book was a darker Grease, which I'm perfectly happy reading.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been spotting Perfect Chemistry at Barnes & Noble for years. I’ve always been on the fence about it, it sounded interesting but I just always ended up putting it down in favor of something else. Like I said, this little dance has been going on for YEARS! So let’s get up to speed; every year a definite go-to gift for me is a Barnes & Noble gift card. I mean the number of them I received for my birthday and Christmas is a little obscene but oh-so-welcome! Around the New Year I was doing some online B&N shopping and I finally, FINALLY, decided to bite the bullet and purchase Perfect Chemistry.
Even though the book was finally in my possession it still sat on my shelf for a couple of weeks before I was finally ready to give it a try and read it. Well four days later I was finished with it. I completely adored this book and just felt compelled to continue on, to keep reading and seek a resolution! After flying through it so quickly it also left me reeling and wishing I had taken the time to savor it just a smidge more so I could enjoy it a little longer.
The little dance I had been doing with Perfect Chemistry was necessary to me enjoying this book as much as I did. I’ll admit I’ve read popular books in the past and just have not enjoyed them as much as others. I’ve read books because others told me I should but the pull just wasn’t there. I was never ‘hooked’ like I should have been. That was not the case with Perfect Chemistry after the first few chapters, laying the groundwork and introducing characters, I was hooked and flying through chapter after chapter.
I’d like to say this book had a bit of a modern day Romeo & Juliet feel to it, but much better. Hey, I am a Shakespeare fan but Macbeth is my favorite not those star-crossed lovers everyone likes to rant and rave about. I say this is much better because the resolution between the two main characters is infinitely more satisfying than both dying by poison, or anything of the like.
I won’t go into too many specifics because I would most likely trip up and end up giving away spoilers (I am incredibly anti-spoiler). But I definitely recommend giving this book a try and if you’ve danced around it like I have, seriously don’t write it off just wait until the time feels right. You will very glad you did.

The feels are killing me. This is an emotionally powerful book. The characters grow and develop so much and they are so messed up, it makes the story more exciting. I loved this book, it was breaking my heart and then the epilogue stitched it back together. Not many books can do that, they just leave it broken and oozing blood everywhere. Amazing amazing book.
