Published May 17, 2022 [Thanks to my book tour partners BiblioLifestyle and William Morrow Books for the gifted copy!]

Take Your Breath Away is a psychological thriller about a formerly missing woman who has suddenly returned under mysterious circumstances.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Barclay’s writing is crisp and complex without being over-the-top, and the story was interesting and fun, with enough twists to keep me on the edge of my seat and turning page after page.

As someone who lived in Connecticut for three years during law school, I loved that I could see familiar neighborhoods in the setting of this one. I also loved the small-ish town/semi-rural feel and tone, which combined with the domestic thriller/cold case/uncertain identity elements to give me Gone Girl, Pretty Little Wife, and Goodnight Beautiful vibes. If you’re looking for a super solid and entertaining thriller, you need to grab a copy of this one!

Recommended to anyone, but especially if you like: domestic thrillers with a twist; missing person cold cases; possible doppelgängers

CW: Blood/injury; death (incl. death of parent); terminal illness; grief; some discussion of addiction/alcohol abuse; infidelity.

[Thank you to William Morrow books for an ARC of Take Your Breath Away, available everywhere now].

It's not often that a psychological thriller surprises me but that's exactly what happened with this author's latest book. While Andrew is away on a fishing trip with his best friend, his wife, Brie, disappears. Despite the lack of evidence tying him to the crime, he's naturally considered the prime suspect. Unable to charge Andrew with anything, the case grows cold until six years later, a mysterious woman who looks Brie suddenly re-appears, upending his new life. Struggling to make sense of her re-appearance, he decides to take a closer look into what really might have happened all those years ago. Is it possible that Brie is still alive? Where has she been all of these years?

This was my first foray into the author's work and what a ride it was. I found myself invested in the story early on, eager to know what would happen next. I appreciated the unexpected twists and turns the book took as well. After having enjoyed this one so much, I'm excited to dig into the author's back catalog.
