Rounded up a bit but overall, I loved it. I wasn’t sold initially but the story took on force as it went on. I keep thinking about how the phrase “hope makes a show of reviving” is not so different from the biblical “hope does not disappoint.”

In some ways, the book reads like it’s translated - a certain choppiness of communications - but I think that’s more about cultural norms and expectations than about linguistics and in that sense, a culture that’s very different from the one I am in can be enlightening. I also found the book to be true in its critique of desire, acquisition, and capitalism and its honoring of community, goodness, and hope. I made a LOT of kindle highlights of the best stuff.

Last year I read the cat who saved books on a three hour train ride and loved it, ended up giving it 4.5 stars but this is a 5/5!

We follow 13 year old Nanami with a chronic asthma condition, she cant join sports in school or spend a lot of time with friends after school but instead she spends her time at the library. One day she notices books keep disappearing and sees a suspicious man in a gray suit, she follows him but suffers an asthma attack and afterwards the man is gone but she discovers a talking tabby cat (same cat as the previous book). Together they go on a big adventure to stop books from disappearing.

These books are PERFECT for booklovers, it has so many perfect quotes about books, readers, reading and what literature and fiction means for us. How it affects us to read and gives us empathy and makes us understand the world around us. You dont need to read non-fiction to learn something. I feel like I could relate to Nanami as well, not to her health condition and I wasn’t reading that much at her age but where I am now. Books are a perfect comfort to feel less alone

★★★★☆ (4,5)

This was a very calming and soothing read. I haven't yet read the first book (The Cat Who Saved Books), but I was really in the mood for a book like this. I was attracted by the cover, and I was in the mood for a book that isn't so heavy on the plot and just has some calming vibes, maybe something I can learn from, or just relax by and feel better because of it. And this book was exactly that.

It doesn't have much plot or drama, but it doesn't always have to be. I think the elements of what this book already provides on its own are already enough as is. I believe this is a book to be savoured and enjoyed for what it is and not wish for it to be more, just like any other healing fiction books.

The book itself is best described by its feelings rather than its plot, and it follows the growth of the fmc and the circumstances she has dealt with. And together with the talking cat, she finds a way forward, while also saving books along the way. But this is also a book about books. It talks a lot about the importance of books, with many book references and book titles sprinkled throughout.

The story gave me a lot of Ghibli vibes. Tbh, I was reading in the hammock, on a hot summer's day, and this book was just so calming, and it consumed my entire day without me even realising it. I actually dozed off because I was feeling so comfy, and the story just had a very healing and soothing effect on me. It might be a short book, but it's so worth reading! ₍^. .^₎⟆

A very cute book about books - such an easy read ❤️ Great book to read in-between some 'harder' fantasy books !
