Ho hum. Another nasty, unlikable protagonist who may or may not be guilty. Another cast of characters, none of whom is who they seem. If you've read Gone Girl you've read the best of this type.

I think that some of the twists were glossed over and not given their fair dues, especially toward the last chapter, but overall a very good read, especially for fans of female-centric mystery thrillers a la Gone Girl.

Review to come.

I don't think I have ever disliked a book this much. It was a complete waste of my time. I kept willing it to get better. Hoping it would get better. Expecting it to get better because the reviews were great. I am completely baffled as to why. The plot was as interesting as watching corn grow and moved at the same pace. Not what you're looking for in a mystery/thriller. The character was dull & bitchy, not "part sleuth- part sass" like described. The answers were being handed to her while she was stumbling around like an idiot. Why I bothered to finish this book is a mystery. How this book even got published along with such rave reviews is the biggest mystery of all!

Dear Daughter has been on my TBR since 2016. So it seemed fitting to jump into a thriller book just before October. In it, you will meet Janie. She seems to have it all until the day it all comes tumbling down. The day her mother is murdered is the day she is convicted and goes to jail.

Did she really do it? No. Does anyone believe that? Also no.

Once she tastes freedom, she's sort of on the run to figure out the truth. She knows she didn't do it but she doesn't know what actually happened to her mom. It's not like they were close or anything because they definitely weren't. At times they would acknowledge one another but it seemed like they lived separate lives and enjoyed it that way.

With each twist and turn, I was completely confused and honestly had no idea who was behind it all. After the big reveal, though, I didn't expect it. Of course things started to make sense after I finished the book. It was like all the clues just sort of merged together and I had the lightbulb moment.

A little late in the book murder mystery thriller game though.

I still definitely enjoyed the book and I will have to be on the look out for another one of Elizabeth's books soon.

This book turned out to be a good surprise. It is funny as I always talk about how a book has to have plenty of action and suspense in order for me to like it. Well this book was not chalked full of suspense in the way that it is in your face. It is more like the author slowly draws out the past and the truth bit by bit. In such a way that I could not stop reading. Also, I thought there was something cool and mysterious about Jane that I liked. Jane was real. She was like take me for who I am or forget you. Another thing that I liked about this book was the short snippets of the TMZ entries, news paper articles, and wiki information. It made the story more than just a story. Lastly, I can't finish without briefly talking about the ending of this book. The ending was the twist. One that I did not really see coming.

Warning: there is language used in this book with the "f" word.

I don't know about this book...I mean the plot was intriguing and the characters all had strong personalities, but I had some trouble following at some parts. First of all, the characters were wayyy too inter-related (like too many cousins and siblings). Plus, it was awkward how sometimes I would forget that Jane is only 27 instead of some 40 year old woman. The generation lines were also slightly unclear because I think Rue, Renee, Jane, Leo, and them are all the same "generation" even though Rue is 17 and Leo is probably 35, which made it all the more confusing. The ending was also unsatisfying. The climax built up to some great revelations, but then the end was like letting go of a balloon right after blowing it up-there wasn't a long, drawn out happy ending, but there also wasn't a popping BAM THIS HAPPENED NOW IT'S OVER. <--this happened, but then there was a little more that left so many things unresolved even after so many things were resolved. I don't know how to feel.
