Nothing Burns As Bright As You by Ashley Woodfolk

Novels in verse always carry something extra special with them. I loved this. It follows two girls as they build a friendship, that is often chaotic and at times toxic, through first love that feels like forever love and everything that may mean as they grow. The social commentary in the contrast with their families lives peaked my interest, but what kept me the most engaged is the disruptive (as well as peaceful) ways that these two girls loved.

this is suchhh an underrated, hidden gem! the writing is beautiful, and the audiobook narrator does a phenomenal job. this is one of those books that breaks your heart and puts it back together again. also recommend reading the author's note at the end as well.

I want to spit and scream at how this book has torn me apart & put me back together. I really hope one day I can be happy like completely. This is gut wrenching.

I read this novel in verse one sitting. It took me back to a relationship I had years ago: It was passionate and all consuming, so it was hard to realize how much it was burning both of us until we were standing on the ashes of the relationship.

Woodfolk does a phenomenal job in bringing these big feelings to life and the book’s Author’s Note is perhaps my second favorite ever.

A very tender and raw read. I can’t think of another poetry book that has a plot. It was neat to go through. The commentary on love and loving someone was really well done
