This book was interesting... The main character had a number of self conflicting traits, the ultimate reveal was a "fred did it" ending, so if you like to solve the mystery along with the main character, that's not happening here. The plot jumped around in light speed, with things that seemed like they should have taken chapters taking pages and vice versa, but all that said, I was intrigued by the plot and wrapped up in the mystery and I enjoyed it.
dark emotional mysterious medium-paced

I really enjoyed most of this book. It started out unique and different with the main character a geeky computer analytic biologist who becomes involves with a murder in a small Montana town. Dr. Theo Cray is smart and focused but his curiosity becomes fixated on finding a killer where the authorities think it's just an animal attack. His focus becomes fixation as he uncovers more and more with his scientific approach. I don't want to spoil the book because for the most part it's an absorbing story and most of the mystery is intriguing. Just know, that for me, the end didn't prove that simply being the smartest guy is enough. I think my expectations were so high with the first half or so of this book that I'm a bit let down with its conclusion. Still, when it was good, it was great.

Suspension of belief is required, but it was an entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the science and genetics woven into this book! It was pretty scary at the end but couldn't out it down - so intense!

Interesting concept. It was good enough that I will try the next in the series.

Looking forward to reading more of this series

I pre-order this book because the description was interesting and seemed different than almost any book I've read so far. The methodology and language of the expertise was fascinating and the premise of what was happening didn't seem all that unreal while you are wrapped up in the story. The protagonist was a bit annoying that he didn't relay some things that were exhaustively being not related to help his situation not did he use his probably best resource who was introduced in the beginning to never be here from again. Still, it was enjoyable, different, and probably written to make it easy to turn into a tv show.

I enjoyed this book even though it was sort of fantastical.

I really enjoyed this mystery and was excited to hear there are more in the series! Perfect combination of science, mystery, and scare. There were a few nights that I stayed up late reading this and couldn't fall asleep after - it is truly creepy at some parts and hard to put down. I loved how much science was incorporated into this book and there are a lot of little things that clearly had to be researched and organized thoroughly. My only complaint is that I love camping and it will be hard not to think about this book when I am in the dark woods...

Fun and Exciting Read

A real page turner, and that's a lot coming from me. Unfortunately I have very little patience for a book that's slow, even if it's incredibly well written. This one is both. Excellent characters, just the right mix of humor, and paced like a hardcore interval workout.
