A book that is easy to pick up and get into. Not breaking any grounds here, but sometimes simple entertainment is just fine.

I love it when Mark Watney in “The Martian” says:
“So, in the face of overwhelming odds, I’m left with only one option:
I’m going to have to science the shit out of this.”
That’s the motivation of the bio data scientist solving the crimes in this series. I love the fact that data nerds are now rock stars thanks to guys like Nate Silver and Bill James. I’m here for it.
Real life IS stranger than fiction so I’m very happy to whistle past some superpowers that our protagonist can occasionally draw on. If this were labeled science fiction instead of crime fiction and occurred on planet Niburu everyone could stand down and just enjoy this entertaining, smart adventure.

~The woods were wrong.~

~Nature is there, even if you don't recognize it.~

~It's comforting to blame the misfortune of others on their own actions. It's also wrong.~

~It still blows my mind that you can e-mail life like you can cat pictures.~

~If a bear kills you in the forest and nobody finds the body, is it a bear attack?~

I live in the west and the mountains and hike a lot. This book felt like it was about a real place. I felt creeped out by some of the scenes. The protagonist is a problem for me. How can he be so observant about behavior and supposedly unobservant at the same time? Also I know a lot of smart, highly educated people who approach things logically with a wide variety of analytical tools. Maybe not the most common in the general population but certainly not completely unique. But with those caveats, I loved the storytelling and setting.

Quick fun read, kept me guessing.

A biologist hunts a serial killer. Of course I liked the use of biology and science to solve the mystery, but it all could have been woven together more elegantly. Also it was pretty scary for me. If you like thrillers and science, definitely give this a try.

Not perfect, but just creepy enough (especially if you live in a place where it's fathomable that something like this could happen). Maybe a little too dramatic of an ending.
