I think I liked this book better than the first one tbh. A great second instalment but still not the best.

In the beginning of the book how Perry and Aria said they were going to keep their distance from each other because of the Tides was short lived. I wanted more romantic tension they weren't even apart for very long and then BOOM they just couldn't bare the distance any longer. I feel like if they were apart for a while longer it would've made their connection a lot stronger.

I feel like it kinda got repetitive as well with the attacks and Aether storms although I do understand that they were added because it kept the storyline going.

I cannot believe Perry actually let Kirra get so close and just do what she wanted. He wasn't cautious enough, the whole time I did not trust her one bit and I knew it was a recipe for disaster. I actually expected him to keep a close eye on her but he didn't really.

This novel I actually found myself looking forward to the Aria chapters. The ongoing eyepiece meet ups with Soren was something I didn't expect I actually didn't think we would see him at all in this book.

And the whole situation in Rim.....Roar MY POOR BABY! If Aria hadn't been a stubborn bitch and taken the eyepiece out sooner then I swear Liv would've survived. FUCK. I was looking forward to seeing the cute humorous relationship between Liv and Roar that we were told about but I never got to see it! I felt so bad for Roar because I love him so much and then when Perry let Kirra get into his head about Roar and Aria being together! WTF PERRY?! THEN YOU JUST GO AND SHOVE MY BABY WHEN YOU SEE HIM AGAIN?! I actually really hated Perry in that moment. And Perry was going on and on about seeing Aria again and then when they finally found each other again they didn't even hug? Disappointed.

TBH I thought the ending was so rushed just like the ending to the first book. I feel like Veronica Rossi drags out the middle of her books and then rushes the ending. She needed to SLOW DOWN. It was too much for me I couldn't catch up.

Over all an awesome book and it definitely set up for a phenomenal finale.

Excellent sequel despite the behaviour of that almost-cheating bastard Perry. Can't wait the next book. Highly recommended!

THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT was a great book! I loved the romance, the action, the adventure and the suspense!!! In this book, Aria and Perry are about to be reunited, but their reunion is short lived because the Tides don't really like Dwellers. Along with this, Perry and Aria are hiding their relationship from everyone else and barely get time together! A little annoying, but it is necessary for the story as a whole.
In this one, we got to see more of Aria than we did in UNDER THE NEVER SKY. It is still in dual POV, but instead of four chapters of Perry and three of Aria, it's about 1-2 per person each time. There was also something at the end of each chapter that made you want to read, read, read, read!!!! I got this book at a signing of hers on February 7 in Cambridge, MA. Veronica was awesome and we had a conversation about YA in general!
I recommend this book to those who have read UTNS. Even if you didn't like UNDER THE NEVER SKY all that much, TTEN makes up for everything! Reading UNRAVEL ME next (Tahereh was @ the signing too!)

this review and more at wrapped up in books

I read Under the Never Sky in January, and my only complaints were the terrible pacing and the unresolved ending, which fortunately, did not plague the sequel. While this book lacked some of the magic of the first (no crazy cannibals or sexy berry scenes) it was a well-plotted and energetic sequel that avoided the second book slump so often found in series. With an excellent balance between action and character development, this series continues to be a stand-out in a crowded field of young adult post-apocalyptic sci-fi/fantasy.

WORLD-BUILDING and PLOT

I’m trying to keep this review relatively spoiler-free, so forgive me if this is vague. The outstanding world-building Rossi delivered in Under the Never Sky continues in Through the Ever Night. This installment further develops the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of this post-apocalyptic world on the brink of even further disaster, and further increases the stakes. While some series feel as if they are unnecessarily stretched out, each chapter of this book is critical to the over all story; there’s no fluff stuffed in here to fill it out. Chocked full of action and plot twists, this book is hard to put down and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I’m anxious to find out how this series concludes in Into the Still Blue but feel like Through the Ever Night ended at an appropriate point. This sequel is executed well.

CHARACTERS

I continued to be surprised by how much I cared about all of the secondary characters in this series. Of course there is Roar and Liv, whose tragic love was heart-wrenching. I was as invested in their fate as Aria and Perry’s. Marron and Cinder prove they’re importance to the story, and I was pleased with how much of a role they play.

The subtle way that Rossi has constructed her villains is impressive. Even those who are operating contrary to Aria and Perry’s goals aren’t portrayed as simply evil—they are fighting to survive, too. I can sympathize and relate to them, even if I’m cheering for Aria and Perry!

ROMANCE

The strongest element of Under the Never Sky was the slowly burning romance between Peregrine and Aria, and it continues to be the most appealing aspect in the sequel, even though Aria and Perry spend the majority of the story apart. This separation made sense and wasn’t artificially angsty. I loved that Rossi challenged their relationship by presenting them with other romantic options to test their bond without doing a full blown love triangle. Their doubts and struggles felt believable without being overly dramatic. The very real and immediate threats of their environment and their obligations to others takes precedent over their romance, and it makes it all the more satisfying. I’m completely invested in their relationship.

In the Still Blue is at the top of my 2014 to-read list. This is a series not to be missed.

It's not bad, but it did get boring at parts. I feel horrible about the Liv and Roar situation, I pray that it doesn't really happen or that it's undone/ it works out. Sad Roar= sad Karina. I love him, he's a sweetheart and I'm scared he'll die/do something trash.
