This is better than I expected and much better than the first one. I know from the first page that this book will be kick-ass till the end. And oh boy, I'm so right!

If Aria annoyed you at the first book, you wouldn't help but love her now. This girl grew a backbone and was a strong protagonist through and through. Not to mention that she's a total kickass heroine now. Another thing that I grew to love more is Perry for he is a good leader and a selfless one at that. I really adore him a lot and always find myself falling in love for him again and again. And Roar (*swoon*) is the same witty and charming character that I fell in love with. Another thing is that I grew more fond and more mystified on Cinder now. And I got a feeling that he'll be a large part on book 3.

Aside for the likable characters -- both old and new -- this novel is filled with lots and lots of action and adventure. You will never get bored tearing into this one. Plus Veronica Rossi's writing flows as smoothly as the Aether and beautiful in its own way.

Through The Ever Night is a beautiful, action-packed, and creative novel that explores danger, love and betrayal.

And from the author's own words, tighten your seatbelts people and get ready, for it's time we head Into the Still Blue...

I thought this book was great. I loved Under the Never Sky and was surprised to find that Through the Ever Night was even better.

I really enjoyed this book. The author does a wonderful job with her world building. I was worried that all of the new ideas I liked in the first book would fall apart in this book. However, I found the opposite to be true. I loved all of it. I loved the characters and the story. I would rate this book 4.5 stars. But, I am rounding up because it was an awesome book and it was book #2. How often does that happen? Second books are usually just filler books. This did NOT feel like a filler book to me. Great story!

AMAZING!

That one word above is my reaction after finishing the last page of Through the Ever Night. Is it any surprise? This author rocks my socks off with her writing. Not only has her writing grown by leaps and bounds, but the characters come alive in your head like a movie.

The characters in this book were also amazing. I think Roar might have even tied with Perry in this one for my favorites. Not everything that happens is what the readers want, but in the end we grow to respect what we do get. Action is another focus in this book. While some authors go overboard on the action, I have to say that it was balanced really well with the romantic tension between Perry and Aria. The conflict will also leave the reader shocked. Who will Aria choose to hold her trust when it is most needed? That my friends is the question you will have answered when you read this book.

I really don't know how to share my feelings on this book any better than what I stated above. I don't want to share too much of the plot because of spoilers. So I am going to leave you with the following:

Friendship, love, angst and full of drama -- the perfect combination!

(No spoilers that you wouldn’t find in the synopsis.)

THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT was a book I came into with very high expectations. Generally when that happens, I throw the book down eventually and say, “Well, that was a bad idea.” Instead, when I finished this book, my first thoughts were more like raw emotions – panic, need, hope, happiness, and despair once more when I realized it will be another year until I can read book three and find out what happens.

A SEQUEL THAT OUTPACES THE FIRST ENTRY

Picking up several months after the end of UNDER THE NEVER SKY, we find our hero and heroine back in the thick of their lives before their meeting – with some major differences. Aria has been tasked by Hess (the commander of Reverie, the pod where she was raised) to find the Still Blue before Reverie is destroyed. Meanwhile, Perry has become the Blood Lord of the Tides after killing his brother Vale. The Aether storms are growing worse and worse, destroying the homes of more tribes scattered across the wasteland.

There are multiple things that make THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT a better book than UNDER THE NEVER SKY, which in itself is a feat. How many times is a sequel better than the original? Well, Aliens was better than Alien but that’s a movie and an unpopular opinion so…

SMOOCHING UNDER THE RUINED MAGNETOSPHERE

Okay, time for another unpopular opinion… I was totally feeling Aria/Roar in this. And I kind of wanted Aria to ditch Perry for Roar. Roar is fun and compassionate and knows what Aria is, and he gets her, while Perry spent a lot of this book flip flopping on his feelings about the Tides and about his role as leader and about what he should be doing in order for his people to survive. I know, I know, this is not really a cannon ship, but I ship it. I ship it hard.

And did I mention that the Aether is finally explained? I mean, it scientifically didn’t make much sense to me, and instead I just kept picturing the planet Solaris (from the George Clooney version of Solaris, mind you) with the swirling blue and the offshoots and fingers of blue and purple plasma. After not having the Aether explained at all in book one, with the reader just told that it existed and that it was bad because it could destroy things, it felt at the same time that the explanations were just too contrived, just too convenient, and thrown in too much to make up for a lack of it in book one.

THRILLS GALORE ON THIS ROLLERCOASTER

Yes, this one is a rollercoaster of emotion, especially if you were me and kept trying to secretly root for Roar and Aria to hook up. Especially as we negotiate the new situations we find, such as the evilness of Hess, old friends (“friends”) showing back up with their own plans, new friends (“friends”) popping out of nowhere, and the changes to this world becoming more and more clear with each chapter, the stakes are raised and become life or death. And who can resist life or death?

This book doesn’t get five stars from me for a few reasons. As I said, I wasn’t feeling Perry and Aria’s relationship and I don’t quite know why. Also, the explanations felt a little cheap, a little too convenient at times. And I wish that some of the reveals had been less obvious. I saw a few of the twists coming from a mile away, and where is the fun in that? But otherwise, this is a solid 4.5 star read. Which means that you really have no excuse but to go buy a copy (or a copy of UNDER THE NEVER SKY) and get started on this fabulous series.

VERDICT: Outpacing UNDER THE NEVER SKY in terms of action, adventure, and romance, THROUGH THE EVER NIGHT is a satisfying second entry that does what the first book sometimes cannot – surprise and amaze.

"She’d been seeking the comfort of a place. Of walls. A roof. A pillow to rest her head on. Now she realised that the people she loved were what gave her life shape, and comfort, and meaning."

We join Aria and Perry again and the outside world challenges underneath the Aether. Will the Tides accept Aria? Will Roar find Liv? Will they save Talon? Where is Cinder? Who lives and who dies in part 2 of this dystopian trilogy? You have to buy this book to find out! I was enthralled to the end. Now I better buy the third!

I can't remember the last time I started a YA dystopian trilogy I felt this invested in for a while - possibly since Hungers Games?

You know how some authors run out of material, and stretch three chapters worth of story into a whole book? This is it.
