I hated this book. The first 150 pages are basically just Rae (the MC) displaying unhealthy obsessive tendencies towards the person she “loves,” but it’s more like obsession. Despite Claire’s adamant expression that she doesn’t want Rae as her maid, plot purposes make Claire’s dad accept Rae as her maid. Rae derives enjoyment from being humiliated/verbally abused by Claire. She thinks that homophobes don’t like lesbians because they think they aggressively pursue any woman in sight, but that’s LITERALLY what Rae is doing to Claire - aggressively pursuing her when she has no interests. Claire shouldn’t be called selfish for wanting to have nothing to do with Rae. Plus, she says that she’s just content with Claire pursuing Thane as long as she’s happy, but later in the book she interrupts their moment because she feels jealous. Liar! You only said that to lower Claire’s guard!
Other people seem to enable her creepy behavior. They see it as just them being close but it’s obvious that it’s just harassment since Claire never shows any positive thoughts towards Rae and her “teasing.” They force Claire and Rae to do Academy Knight things together when Claire says that she doesn’t want to. I feel bad for Claire, having to deal with harassment and people accepting that. It must be so exhausting to deal with someone’s harassment all day and night.
It’s not really interesting when the MC knows everything. The only way the author can create mystery is by deliberately withholding information from the reader. It felt a bit cheap.
Also, EW! Why did there have to be themes of incest? It’s super gross that Lambert and Lene are into each other romantically. Why couldn’t Lambert have been blackmailed just because he loved his sister as a sister? They deserved to be executed, or at least imprisoned. They don’t deserve to have been deported and gotten off scot-free, and being disowned doesn’t really count since Rae gave Lene a way to make a living, which she did not deserve after she tried to kill Claire and other students just to marry her brother. The family didn’t deserve to be punished because of their selfishness.
I hated reading this book and regret spending money on it. Its not even worth hate reading. I will definitely resell this book for some poor other soul to read instead, if it even gets sold at all.
Edit: after I read If You Tell, I decided to make this 0.5 stars instead of 0.25.

Short, funny and very easy to read. I also like that there's a subtle hint of darkness in the future too
