What this book has:
1. Sublime writing
2. Stellar characterization
3. Gorgeous sex scenes
4. An amazing first half
5. Great dialog
The plot isn't what I'd call mind-blowing and it renders the second half of the book pretty weak and sure, the ending is corny and cheesy but this book is good.
It is really damn good. Even if you take out everything else, THE WRITING.
Omfg, it deserves five fucking stars for the writing alone.
Maybe I'm just ignorant but I don't like classics because I don't have the patience for them. And I think it is something else entirely to create a book with such a heady atmosphere without the book being 60 % description and narration.

um.. this was just okay for me. (2 1/2 ***) I didn't connect with the characters at all. I did like the raw witty humor of Maise- which was the only good redeeming quality about this book. It saddens me because I am usually a fan of the forbidden teacher/student relationships. but this one just didn't do it for me.
A fun, addictive ride. The roller coaster metaphor woven throughout the book is actually a pretty good descriptor for the book itself!
I love the writing style-- I think Leah Raeder's gift as a writer is in her descriptions and writing style. There were swaths or rich, detailed descriptions, but they never felt stilted or at all tedious to read. So many moments of wonderfully captured feelings. Moments that somehow evoked a summery nostalgia in me, even for situations I'd never experienced. There wasn't a single time I didn't love the words I was reading, and that's not something I can say about many books.
Another huge A+ from me were the characters. All of them were so multi faceted. Every character will surprise you in at least one good way and one bad way-- and I absolutely loved that. The only character I wasn't impressed with was Hiyam-- she was too caricaturized. She had no redeeming qualities save for being beautiful and smart (though her intelligence is something that's never actually remarked upon). It's only a minor disappointment, but I felt with a bit more fleshing out, she could've been an asset to the story. The bones of her character are a very real one, but also one that's often turned into a Disney villain. Making her a bit more real would've been a huge plus for me! Instead, she's basically just a device to provide more characterization for Maise and Wesley.
Why 4 stars and not 5? Personally, I felt the wheels kind of came off the book in the last 25-40 pages. It felt all over the place, and not in a good way. The book needed 10 more pages. Just a little more information sprinkled into the end of school and the start of summer. Once school was over, everything felt very abrupt and rushed, which just didn't feel totally right to me.
(The last page didn't bother me. Though I'm sure I had a different conclusion than everyone else who read the book, lol.)
All in all, I loved the book! I recommend it to anyone looking for an addictive romance that's heaps and heaps more than boy meets girl.
A final bit of praise, I didn't cringe during any of the sex scenes! No fanfiction-y euphemisms, no over exaggerated descriptions, no craziness in general! A huge compliment coming from me. I'm hard on sex scenes. Unteachable's were just... well, sexy,

Wow Leah Raeder really nails it. Dark, addictive read. Really enjoyed this. Found myself getting depressed about half way through and needed to step away for a while. But picked it back up and didn't put it down till it was finished.
It was a refreshing slightly sordid take on teacher/student relationships.
I did however feel that the author rushed some parts of the story whilst filling some chapters with sometimes, slightly over-the-top descriptives. I felt I just stumbled upon the ending although saying that I loved the punch line!
A great 4star intelligent read. Happy Days

The writing of this book was beautiful and I liked the main character but honestly, the romance really didn't work for me. I didn't understand the chemistry, there was really no repercussions for the things we find out about the love interest, and I feel like by the end I didn't really know Evan. The rest of the book had really strong, interesting points but in the end, a romance book should have a good romance and this one just didn't do it for me.
Quickly now...
Protagonist: Maise.
No "she doesn't know how beautiful she is" shit. Maise knows she's gorgeous, and she's a sarcastic bitch, badass. Love her. +1 point.
But Maise is also broken and scared inside (yeah... not really a groundbreaking NA background, but it really adds to the character) +1 point.
Maise makes a hilarious and entertaining narrator. + 1 point.
Evan is the sweetest.
-Here you go, some unattached sex
-But I want to get to know you!! :(
Bahaha
But it's totally understandable when you get to know the deeps of his character. + 1 point.
REALLY well written and a total page turner +5 point.
Lyrical writing. I dont' know what's up with me and lyrical writing. I just can't apreciate it! Mostly when you read about how magical the snow is right after a blowjob scene...just saying. + 0 point.
Plot...kind of predicatable. It's ok. + 0 points.
But there were two scenes that were EXACTLY the same in other two [a:Karina Halle|4785031|Karina Halle|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1394491989p2/4785031.jpg]'s books. Not cool. - 2 points.
Teasing. Let's write a book about a total tabu subject and don't even give a good perspective about it. -1 point
Teasing, Let's constatly say everything will go to hell at some point, and then...not so much. Not a fan of the final chapters and the ending. -1 point.
negative points: 4
positive points: 9
neutral points: 2
Veredict: Recommedable just for funs. I will try out something else from Leah Raeder out of this genre.
[Edit]Totally forgot about Reader not having the most basic idea of how a search engine works. Ma'am, if you google someone by middle name + last name + location, you will surely find something out. It's not strictly necessary to look someone up by first name! u.u

i only read the first chapter and it's already cringe also why does she use her daddy issues as an argument for everything ??? kinda disappointed
Overthrown by a massive wave of emotions, I was left dumbfounded ....and words ..words I was wanting to say ...just stuck up or got lost somewhere? I felt my knees so weak just like the ones we felt right after riding a roller coaster? I am wobbly, I can't stand straight ..and I have to leaned back or hold on to something... that's the exact feeling I got after reading this book. I never expected a book to do something as nerve wrecking as this. It was... it was.... both exciting and gave me the scare of my life!
And while I was still lost for words...let me share this song that I think was perfect for Maise and Evan "Found" by Phillip Larue :
"Faster than a shooting star
baby you stole my heart
i never want it back
i never thought it'd be like this
so surprised by your kiss
i didn't have time to react
Believing in us
feels so dangerous
When you're lost lost lost in love
you never wanna find your way out
when you're lost lost lost in love
you never want to be
you never want to be found
I feel so strange because of you
i have everything to lose
i wouldn't have it any other way
if this turns out to be a dream
please don't wake me
i don't want to leave this place
Believing in us
can feel so dangerous..."
I just love the way this book was written. I admit I was not really a fan of the super angsty ones ( this one's loaded with a lot! ) ...but this book? I am hooked from the very beginning! Teacher-student relationship was never new to me since I already read books with same theme. I was expecting this to be...well, somewhat similar from what I have read before. I was wrong. This one's different. It was deep, all consuming, words can't express feelings that took me in ..drown me...making me breathless.
It was like I was there , a witness to the struggles of both Maise and Evan . And boy it was really really messed up! I've been cussing and swearing most parts of the book! ( which was really unlikely of me?!) . There's a lot of WTF , and more "eff" up situations! As the story goes, it seems like the angst was intensified?! And it's non stop! I was afraid my poor heart could not handle it...or more of ...losing my sanity??? Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! I should probably stop, before I burst?.... But no, like Maise and Evan, there's no stopping now!
I love the written words...deep...poetic ...the metaphors...just beautiful! I felt every single emotion here. But what I felt the most? Obsession. Desperation. Longing. Love? All the same time. It was overpowering ... Overwhelming. As the climax build up, as Maise and Evan faced the inevitable. Choices have to be made. To stay ....to flee...to hold on or to let go? I was on the edge of breaking down! I sobbed...cried...
“Out of everything I ever learned from Evan Wilke, I think that lesson was the most important: that none of us actually grow up. We get bigger, and older, but part of us always retains that small rabbit heart, trembling furiously, secretively, with wonder and fear. There’s no irony in it. No semantics or subtext. Only red blood and green grass and silver stars.
“Don’t be afraid,” Evan said.
With wet tears still on my face, on the few last pages of this book, I held my breath...told myself , so this is the end? ....then something happened...
“You’re pretty brave,” the guy beside me said, “sitting up front by yourself.”
The floor fell out of the universe. I was in freefall.
I turned.”
Love. Loved it! For those who love a heavy dose drama and angst , this one is definitely for you!
