This was a tough book to get through. The author clearly did her research, but did not do a great job telling AE’s story. As comprehensive as the book was, I found that there were several details that were missing. For example, the first few chapters go into great detail about AE’s family tree but then the book ends without any discussion about what happened to AE’s friends and family after she disappeared. I will say that after reading this book, I was left wondering if AE was a feminist who happened to be a pilot or a pilot who happened to be a feminist. I was definitely left wondering if flying was a means to an end in terms of promoting equality for women. In any case, AE is definitely inspiring and her life is worth reading about.

What an adventure learning about this wonderful woman. She did so much to change the perceptions of what women can do. I am forever grateful for what she has done for me, and for all of womankind.

5⭐️ a Amelia Earhart.
De mi propia vida desconozco más detalles que los que descubrí con esta lectura sobre la piloto más famosa de la historia.
Hará falta un poco de tiempo para ofrecerles una reseña más extensa...

A really terrific work. I can't say how much I learned from and enjoyed this audio. The only thing that kept it from being 5 stars was a certain bit of repetitiveness. (OK, OK, Amelia had "level grey eyes", UNCLE!) Part of it was due to the structure of the book. Butler followed themes, sometimes from start to finish, so certain bits were repeated, and at times, the chronology was hard to figure out since it went back and forth a lot. But overall, you really should read (or listen, Anna Fields is a great narrator, something like a cross between Kate Hepburn and Kate Mulgrew)this book, even if you THINK you know Amelia Earhart. She was so much more than I think she has ever been given credit for, and Butler really brings that out. First rate.

Best Earhart biography out there. Well written, well researched and balanced. She paints such an accurate picture that as the end neared, I kept thinking it would end differently - she has to make it! Those were the same thoughts the world had when she disappeared forever and part of the reason we keep going back to her story. An amazing woman who, even without her tragic end would have fascinated future generations, Earhart accomplished so much in her short life that she helped change the course of history. What I admire most was her internal drive and high principles that kept her pushing forward to break barriers, set records and - her ultimate goal - help women to set higher goals and achieve them. Her lack of competitiveness, sense of community and helpful outlook endeared her to her peers and accomplished more than any other female aviator. She wasn't just a publicity stunt, a Lady Lindy. She made sure that she earned the accolades that were always coming her way. And she made sure to bring all her friends along for the ride because she didn't want the world to see one woman could do amazing things - she wanted the world to know all women could be amazing if they would only try.

I got this book almost 2 years ago when I visited the Amelia Earhart birthplace museum in Atchison, KS. I was so looking forward to reading it, since she lived such an interesting life. However, I cannot get past the labored prose; it is difficult to believe that the author was a journalist, because she cannot tell this story in a straightforward and succinct manner. Every chapter is convoluted, and many passages are downright painful to read.

I listened to this as an audio book and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed learning about the history of Amelia what family and her Philadelphia roots. I loved learning about her strength, steadfastness, and determined nature. And even though I knew the ending, I was able fascinated throughout the book.

It is a tragic that the audio book performer, Anna Fields (Kate Fleming), also did suddenly at almost the same age. I was thrilled when I heard her voice as the narrator. She does an amazing delivery. I hope to discover other books that she recorded before her own tragic death.

Great read about a fascinating and controversial historical figure. Does a nice job of connecting the dots and debunking some myths.

Biographies are such a good reminder of the depths and intricacies of people's lives, not to mention very particular histories. I found myself paying closer attention to weather reports after I finished this book, and that's saying a lot since I love weather-watching.
