So far, this is my least favorite Sarah Dessen novel. It is in no way on the same level as some of her other books.
First off, the protagonist was very unlikeable. All she did was complain the entire time. I'm pretty sure there is not one moment in this book where she isn't complaining, because apparently, she hates everything!
Also, I never once in this novel got invested in the love interest. If you haven't read this book, one of the main concepts is that the protagonist, Remy, is out of this guy's league. Everyone is confused why she starts dating him, when in reality, he is 100% too good for her. She basically spends the whole Summer trying to figure out how and when she is going to break up with him, because she only dates guys out of boredom.
If you are thinking of reading a Sarah Dessen novel, I urge you not to read this one.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book. I've read a few of Sarah Dessen's books, and I always enjoy her stories. Dexter was most definitely my favorite character in this book. He was a heartbreakingly perfect match for the oh-so-bitter Remy. From the moment he burst into her life, he was ridiculously optimistic.
Remy is ready for summer to be over so she can get on with her life and move across the country to start college. But somehow, Dexter keeps resurfacing in her life, and he's hellbent on making her notice his presence, no matter how long it takes.
This was a quick, feel-good read, and I couldn't put it down.

Well, I wanted a beach read and I certainly got one.
Remy is the daughter of a one hit wonder singer songwriter, who is cynical of love. Her mother is on her fourth marriage and she is going away to college in the fall across the country. And then a bad boy blows into town with his band and she falls for him. Though of course because it is young adult romance, we have to play the will they won't they they will they won't game for 300 pages. So yeah, entertaining beach read but not a fuck of a lot else.

Super immature and crazy and silly but he woulda totally been my high school crush
Glad I finally finished this one. As usual Dessen has deep character growth and great quotes about life and relationships and self reflection. I underlined and highlighted a bunch. Can't wait for more summer reads YES ITS SUMMER IDC THAT YOU THINK ITS MARCH ITS SUMMER IN MY HEART AND IN MY S. DESSEN BOOKS SO YES.

I enjoyed This Lullaby. It had lovely summer vibes, fully fleshed characters, and a relatively scintillating plot. I especially appreciated the development of the central relationship between Remy and her mum, and how they understood each other. It was definitely longer than it needed to be, but Remy's friends and Dexter were prett fun to read about. Remy's character development felt a little eavy handed at times, but was still well done. The metaphor of Brock and Melanie was also interesting. Ultimately though, this contemporary isn't particularly unique.
Actual rating: 4.5
I was in desperate need of a cutesy contemporary novel, and I got what I was looking for. Sarah Dessen never fails to give me what I want from a book. However, the only reason this book isn't a 5 is because the main character, Remy, was slightly annoying. But I loved Dexter. I need a Dexter in my life. This was the perfect summer read.

So this was my final Sarah Dessen book! I have finished my quest in reading them all! I think that This Lullaby was actually a great book to finish with. The main reason was because it is unlike any other Dessen book and it was one of the more fascinating ones to read. It let me end on somewhat of a high note. I really do enjoy all the Sarah Dessen books aside from That Summer they were all great! After a while the main plot line she always uses gets a little old, but what can I say it works for her! As for This Lullaby I was not to fond of Remy, she was quite annoying. But Dexter OMG he is ultimately my fave Dessen boy! He was so different and way more out there than the rest of them! Most Dessen boys are mysteriousness, have something to hide and are really quiet. But not Dexter! He is the complete opposite and that's why I loved him! He was totally my type! I feel as though I kinda wanted more of the story line about her dad to be in the book. That part kinda fell a bit short. Another thing unlike most Dessen books is that Remy actually got along with her mother! I find that in most Sarah Dessen books the character never gets along with her mother and for me being someone who has a great relationship with my mother it was hard to connect with. But in This Lullaby she and her mother actually have a somewhat good relationship. And again another unlike Dessen thing is that Remy has a biological brother! Yes a brother! I have a brother and every other Dessen girl has a sister! SO annoying! Finally a character with relatable relationships around her! This book was pretty good and was a great sum up to my Dessen challenge! Hopefully she comes out with more because I just can't get enough! Great books all around!
My first Sarah Dessen novel. It was good--I found myself really liking Remy and rooting for her along the way. I loved the dialogue because I thought it fit the characters well (A+ for using the term "stink eye"). I thought the message was hopeful and I enjoyed the ending. It was a bit predictable (I had a sense of what the highs and lows of the story would be early on), which is the only reason I didn't rate it higher. But I'm definitely interested in reading more of her novels because it was a good summer read.
