Sarah Dessen, I've missed you. I loved this book and the characters in it. It was a fun read, and one of her better novels.

Ugh... I know can't believe I'm saying ugh to a Sarah Dessen book either. In conclusion, these were my main problems:
1) Remy - it was too hard to find things likeable with this character. Dessen played on the whole 'oh I've seen to many examples of failed relationships therefore I think I'm incapable of loving and won't let anyone in'. I wouldn't normally have a problem with this but it was just too over the top.
2) The romance - how was it cute that he straight up stalked her and then finally she gave in? What kind of story is that? i know why I found Dexter charming at times but I sure as heck don't know what made Remy like him, since that was never explained or "displayed". Furthermore, how was it cute that Dexter offered her everything a girl could possible want, she turned him down in a quite mean way and then the second she realizes her mistake and comes back running he just welcomes her with open arms?
3) basically, I felt like 90 % of the book was about someone sipping on a drink, smoking, going to the club and cars.

I felt like the main character just wasn't interesting enough to hold the book up on her own. I wish there had been more development of the mother and Dexter to round out the narrative. It was okay, but not Dessen's best work.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it or anything. It was nice to have a quick read and a Sarah Dessen at that! But, it defiantly wasn't my favourite book of all time.
Somethings I really did like about it though were the characters. I really enjoyed Remy as a main character, I thought she was different from other main characters I had read and she doesn't believe in love at all which I thought was very unique and added an interesting element to the story. As well, I liked her mother as well, in the beginning I wasn't very fond of her because she seemed to thrust everything on Remy. But, near the end of the novel you really get to see the mother's perspective on life and love and I really enjoyed that. Jennifer Anne and Chris I loved though, I thought they were such a good couple and they were total opposites who attracted I really enjoyed reading about them.
Something I didn't like about this book was Dexter's band, I didn't mind Dexter that much. Personally, for me he was just an ok character not one of my favourite's of Sarah Dessen's. But, mostly I really didn't like the supporting characters that were Dexter's friends. I found them annoying more than anything and a lot of them seemed the same to me and sort of blurred together.
Overall I enjoyed this for a quick read, but it's not super memorable for me. I am though looking forward to reading more Sarah Dessen books as the summer comes to an end.

Re-reading books by my favorite author from high school to see if they really were very good or if I just had lower standards back then.
I liked this okay, but it is definitely not one of my favorite Dessen books. There is this really great conversation between Remy and her mom in chapter 13 that I just loved though.
