I have become a huge Sarah Dessen fan over the past year. This book was so disappointing. Full of foul language and constant drinking. But more than that, I just couldn’t like Remy. Usually I can connect and feel sympathy with Dessen’s main characters although I’m a couple decades off from my teen years. But Remy was just distasteful. As were her friends. Maybe the reader is supposed to connect and feel for Dexter. If so, that worked. He’s the only character I liked at all.
For me this just wasn't nearly as good as the only other Sarah Dessen book that I have read - The Truth About Forever. This one was well-written with fleshed out characters. The problem was that I just didn't really like any of the characters all that much. And I definitely couldn't relate to them. So for me this was just OK. In fact, I ended up skimming through the last half so that I could move on to another book. I did like the first book that I read by Dessen enough, however, that I will probably give her another try.
*3.75 stars*
This book wasn’t a 4 but it was close to one. I really did enjoy this book. Dessen is one of my favourite authors and I know I can always read her books to lighten the atmosphere after reading heavy stuff.
I really liked Remy’s character, and truthfully, I found myself relating to her A LOT. All her points just made sense to me and to see her journey and how she learns about the importance of taking risks in love, was refreshing to me. It was the normal sappy insta love story. It rung true to how I think girls like me are.
I think the only issue I had was that Remy’s friends’ insecurities weren’t given a reason.
Loved Dexter tho!

I just love all of Sarah Dessen books. So that being said a lot of people don’t like her books that much, but they mean so much to me and what got me reading. Anyways this is a cute “love” story about a quirky guy in a band and a girl who doesn’t believe in love. I love the relationship, the friendships, and the family relationship and how that changes.
This Lullaby is an amazing story. Remy, like some of Sarah Dessen's other narrators, doesn't believe in love. But the way she finds that she does, and her story, is the most unique in my mind. The falling out and awkward everyone-falling-back-to-their-normal-routines part wasn't as obvious or depressing in this novel. While it may have taken me a little longer than normal to read, I loved the book and the growth of each of the characters. This is a unique Sarah Dessen novel and to me, that's why it stands out.
(7/16/20) Still one of my, if not THE, all-time favorite Dessen books. Feels the most personal!
I think this is my least favorite Sarah Dessen's book I read so far. I just didn't feel really invested in the story and the romance and I was annoyed by most of the characters.

1st book by this author I have read and I really liked it.. Its a story of 2 kids, out of high school who meet and are destined to be together. She, Remy doesnt believe it and him, Dexter trys really hard to convince her. They part ways only to come full circle back to where they were!
