go girl give us nothing

This was by far my favorite Cinderella reimagining I've ever read, such a unique spin on things. The slow burn was slow burning, the FMC was totally relatable, and I loved the MCs together. The spice was so good but there was also strong plot to go with the spice, which is definitely something that I need to be able enjoy a book.
Another amazing book by Whitney Dean. I'm so glad I was lucky to receive it as an ARC.

⭐Book Review ⭐

Rise of the Cinder Fae
Whitney Dean
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wow! This was the first time I have read Whitney's writing and boy do I love it!

I loved her world building and really felt like I could picture it. For each new location we were brought too I could easily imagine what she wanted us to see.

The characters are dynamic, thoughtfully written, and all around impressive! I loved some, I hated some, but all of them were written to draw out those feelings! (Main characters and secondary characters alike!)

There were so many twist and turns that kept me on my toes and each time I thought to myself that I should have seen it coming!

The main characters relationship is a wild ride if ups and downs but I was here for it! I really enjoyed figuring them both out!

This is the first book in the series and I will be waiting very impatiently for what comes next in their story!
medium-paced

This is the easiest 5 stars I have given in a long time. Elora and Finn are just perfect!!

The characters are soooo well written - the twists and turns are just so bloody good.

The plot - AMAZING

Who does like 'Cinderella, Pumpkins, Glass bridges, Princes, Balls, men on white horses, secret armies, castles galore' oh and did I say Fae

I was very lucky to receive an ARC of this book from the author.

I absolutely loved this book! Whitney has written the dark Cinderella retelling I had no idea I needed and I'm obsessed!

All my favourite tropes, and plenty of unique twists and turns, made this extremely hard to put down. I can't wait to see what Whitney brings with the next installment in this series!

WARNING: I try not to do spoilers on my page... but there may be some in this review, number 7 specifically.

Ok, I have a lot of thoughts on this book so strap in.

1. I am a sucker for Cinderella retellings. The first 20% of the book was ok, the next 70% of the book was great, and the last 10% of the book gave me whiplash.

2. There was a lot going on in this book... the wish she made like 4 chapters in was very underwhelming and, to me, made me dislike the MFC a bit. Then there were a lot of side plot points that didn't feel like they fit together.

3. I LOVE the MMC and his sister in this book and just wanted him to have all the happiness in the world.

4. Though the title makes it sound like it is a big thing for the Fae to be a part of this book, the plot of the the Cinder Fae felt secondary to what was really going on. It makes it sound like the Fae are the primary main characters of this story, but that is just not the case. It more so paid a part in the end more than the rest of the book.

5. There were some things in this story that I really thought were going to be a bigger deal throughout it, but ended up not being the case.

6. There were parts of this story that were made to be a big deal, but came out of nowhere. Like I said above, the last 10% of this book gave me whiplash. SO MUCH STUFF HAPPENED, and some of that stuff popped out of thin air. I was like WTF just happened and then got mad because it just ended and I felt like more needed to be explained.

7. **Here is where a spoiler exists** Throughout the whole story you feel like the main female and male characters were fated to be together. Even though they weren't Fae, the way the story was written, even things they said, made it feel like these two should be mates and definitely would be if they were Fae. However in the end, when all the craziness happens, they ended up being mates only because of someone else's minor act. Like without the Cinder Fae Mates doing what they did, they wouldn't have ended up mates when they were "transformed".

All in all, I enjoyed most of the book. There was lots of spice, feelings, torment, tension, and great banter!

In this dark retelling of Cinderella, Elora is the princess of a fallen kingdom forced into marriage to the prince of Pumpkin Hollow, the kingdom that destroyed her own. In order to save her friends, the reclusive Cinder Fae who provide Pumpkin Hollow with coal in exchange for safety in Ashbury, Elora agrees to marry a man she hates. Along the way to the alter, Elora discovers that some people are not as she thought and some are far worse than she believed.

I thought this was a really interesting take on Cinderella and loved the dark gothic elements introduced! The relationship between Finn and Elora was such a good slow burn and they were soooo adorable when they finally go together!

This book felt way longer than it needed to be though, and at times felt like too much was going on when other parts felt fairly rushed so pacing was a real issue while reading. I wish the Cinder Fae played more of a part in the book. Going into it I thought they would be a main part of the story but kind of fell to the sidelines most of the way which was a little disappointing.

I enjoyed the dual POV between Finn and Elora because I think it's great to see both sides of what the characters are experiencing but there were several times where something was happening to one character but the chapter would be in the other characters POV which felt weird. This leads into my biggest issue which was this book relied heavily on "tell don't show". Meaning the characters felt like they were narrating the story to the reader vs the reader "seeing" what was happening as it was going on. As such, there wasn't a ton of discovery for the reader to do. There were also many grammatical and punctuation mistakes that felt odd since this was a finished story.

Even with these issues though, I still enjoyed the story and would be interested in reading the second book!

Whitney provides a fun new world with interesting characters!

The characters:
I loved the dual POV provided in this book. It was really fun to see how the characters saw each other through their own eyes and how they grew to change their opinions over time.

The plot:
The sinister world that Whitney created was an interesting one to fall into, especially with a crazed king, captured cinder fae, and calamities that ensued.

I was not expecting that cliffhanger ending, but damn!

Rise of the Cinder Fae by Whitney Dean is an amazing dark fantasy reimagining of the timeless classic we all know and love, Cinderella.

Whitney gave us an interesting world filled with magic, political intrigue, great dialogue, romance, and of course, some spice! This book made me cry and laugh many, many times. I love the main characters , Finnian and Elora, , but one side character won my heart , Irina. I absolutely adored her and I hope we get more of her story in the future ❤️

All of the characters dealt with situations that felt very real, and these made it hard to put the book down because I had to know what came next.

Tropes:
- enemies to lovers
- arranged marriage
- virgin FMC
- one horse
- slow burn
- dual POV

Yall are going to love this one
