Haven't read Steel in decades, but this book fell into my lap. Steel hasn't changed much to judge by this text: one dimensional characters; everyone is always wealthy, smart, handsome, plucky, and talented; tedious repetition of how marvelous everyone is; every piece falls into place, however illogically. No one ever investigated Ginny to make sure she was worthy of guardianship? She earns guardianship while still having a job that leaves the kid alone for 3 months at a time? She intends to use the homeless shelter as the babysitter for those 3 months? Even the small, quotidien details are fantasy. The whole thing is improbable, which I suppose is the appeal of Steel in the first place.

Kids as victims of rape, molestation, or abuse is a plot device that many authors exploited for a certain amount of time. Can't wait until the last vestiges of it fade off; it's a serious topic which deserves serious exploration, even in fiction, unlike here.

Literally speechless about how great this book is. Hope. Courage. Love. This book has it all. 10/10 recommend.

1st Danielle Steele I’ve read. What a great feel good story dealing with some tough issues. I actually related really well to this book. The tragedy that surrounds Ginny life and how she chose to deal with it by throwing her self into social services around the world. And the way her and Blue find each other. At first glance I thought I had picked up a romance book about cops of NY. Little did I know this was a book about adoption, about not sweeping certain issues under the rug. Romance was only like one chapter of this book. I would read this again.

I loved it. I've always loved Danielle Steel's novel and this one did not disappoint.
