In a novel of 362 pages, Jane Harper has written a gem covered in layers of fine red dust, each layer leaving you more greedy than the last. For me, The Lost Man at its heart was a book about women, though it was written from the point of view of a man.
A story of three brothers, living in the outback who went through a tough childhood. Cameron, the golden child, Nathan, the loner living in isolation and Bub, the child of the family.
When Cameron is found dead under not-so-suspicious but mysterious circumstances, our protagonist Nathan comes to live with the family. As family secrets, hidden pasts come to light, nearly everyone looks guilty.
Reading books about places i've never been to and don’t know much about is one of my favourite things to do. Learning about them from the perspective of a character who has lived there for a lifetime, reveals nuances that tour guides just won’t tell you.
Really feeling the wanderlust right about now.
