Really really liked this. The writing just felt easy, like you could lean into it. I think it’s best to go into a book like this with no expectations. Don’t get me wrong - parts still read like you’re being talked to by a guy at a party, two beers in, who really wants you to know that he read Nietzsche- but it was good. Huge trigger warning though because it very much is a product of its time with incredibly dated language and ideas at times.

I've been meaning to read this book for a while. I remember starting it a few years ago and not feeling into it, and giving up pretty quickly. Today, I don't get how I could have thought this as I really enjoyed this book. It is exactly what you need if you need to evade from your daily life and hop on the roads among the youth of the 50s in the US. So many stories of cities, regions, landscapes, and so many different kind of people. It definitely made me feel like I was missing out working an office job when I could be crossing the US, or anywhere else, again and again. But I think the real moral of the story is that, although being on the road is amazing, feeds your soul in a unique way and gives you a completely different outlook on things, what you learn from 'On The Road' is that he road is not 'the' end in itself.

Someday maybe I'll go back through my shelves and strip all the books of their nostalgia stars. Not today.
Aged like milk!
Literally hundreds of pages of monotonous musings that often result in racist, homophobic, and misogynistic outbursts. I can tell Kerouac was high on speed when he wrote this; it is in fact impressive to have written something so dull while on such a bender.
My frontal lobe is too developed to have enjoyed any part of this.
