I enjoy a book that uses multimedia, so I liked all the insertions of emails and messages (lowkey felt like this book walked so Janice Hallett could run) But on the flip side, this felt more literary/contemporary than mystery so I just didn't go in with the right expectations and was let down by it a bit. The humor didn't really hit for me and I don't enjoy a child's perspective so that's why it's not higher rated for me, personallyyyyy.

Rich white people problems. A fine beach read, minus 1 star for the super casual racism gussied up as ~eccentricity~.

the book felt unfinished and i found the characters unlikable

Reminds me a lot of Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections (which, Pulitzer winner or not, I couldn't finish) and Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Explores socialism, our culture's reliance on western medicine and even a slight satire of the evolving world of technology.

Thought this was a light hearted, entertaining quick read! The mother is a very interesting character and wanted to keep reading to figure out her disappearance.

If you want to read a fun read which is a satirical take on modern Society, look no further than this book. The book is filled with quirky characters, many of them too extreme to seem real yet each retaining that which makes them human. Likewise, the situations seem wild yet, if you break them down, isn’t that exactly how many people fantasise about living even if they do not actually do so.
The principal narrator is Bee, who’s in the final year before high school. She is smart resourceful and loyal to those she loves. Her mother who is the Bernadine who is lost) was an award winning architect, but today is just a slightly asocial mother who cannot focus on any task except being a good mother. Their father is one of the stars at Microsoft, a man much loved and respected by co-workers and the public, but who does not really give either his wife or his daughter, the emotional investment they need.
The book is told through multiple perspectives using multiple styles, which is a kind of storytelling technique that I particularly enjoy. The story two is a fun read. You cannot really put it down. However, the book is full of truth bombs. It is a commentary on life today and by making you laugh, the Author is also making you think.
I would definitely recommend this book for somebody who wants to come out of a reading slump, or who is looking for a light read. As a special bonus is the city of Seattle, what a fun city it is in its own way.
