Neat view into some monumental moments in U.S. national security history from the '60's to the present. Definitely learned some things about each administration and their relationship to the Sit Room/the national security apparatus more broadly. However, I will say Stephanopoulos feels very present in this book in a way that is uncharacteristic of other books on history or current affairs. In this way, the book feels like a memoir about Stephanopoulos writing the book as opposed to a more traditional history narrative.
I listened to this on audio and highly recommend that format. The author reads it himself, and includes snippets of convos he had while writing the book with key players throughout. A really interesting read that opens up on the history of the situation room and gives you an inside look at how and why presidents used (or didn't use) the room.

not my type of book, told well though, could not get over the american perspective that it’s only a tragedy if it’s americans that die like wtf
An excellent history of the Situation Room, how it came to be, how presidents used it, and the crises that were handled there. The behind-the-scenes examination of some of the most difficult things we have faced as a nation over the last 60 years was well-researched and engaging. So much gratitude to the many non-political individuals who put in the long hours and did the hard work there--may we hope a few of them are still there. Excellent on audio.
