This book was a very interesting read on a topic that many people don’t really give much thought to. Detailing the situation room from creation, to the most recent presidential administration. Hearing about the historical events that room endured, as well as the men and women that served in it bought brand new light.

Despite what you might think, this is not a very political book*. It is looking at a special room and how it has handled events across 12 presidents. The audiobook has some surprising moments like hearing actual recordings of the Situation Room being alerted to JFK being pronounced dead and LBJ calling for status updates.
Technology has changed so much since JFK established the sit room. And it providesa different look at events like 9/11. One Situation Room staff member says they "serve in silence." think that is true. The interviews from those who served across multiple presidents (both Democratic and Republican) were extremely interested.
*The Trump section was stressful. The COVID stuff was stressful. This was probably the only section that really went in on a president. Even when another former president is drunk and not showing up, the book still focuses on the people in the room dealing with foreign policy. But all things considered, I don't blame George for a slight dig here.... because a lot of it was the truth.

Absolute must read for all Americans. I feel it's a fair and balanced look at presidents through history from the lens of the apolitical Sit Room. From presidents who leaned heavily on intelligence and those who hardly cared.
This book provides great insight and perspective with a non-partisan historical look back on one of the most important "rooms" and what goes on there in America.

The plot twist at the end that it’s not called the sit room anymore shook me to my core

As a presidential history geek, this book hit the sweet spot. Inside tales from the room where it happens across 12 administrations. Would highly recommend the audiobook as the production value with actual clips from the past are weaved among the author’s own voice.
