Stories from dedicated, loyal Sit Room team members serving both parties. I won't go into detail but the LBJ, Nixon and Trump events are shockingly scary. The Sit Room events on 9/11 are sad and inspiring. Heroes in action that day and many others. Highly recommend!

The Situation Room was a fascinating tale, weaving together the behind-the-scenes tales of the crisis we all know with personal recollections of the people who worked there. Through this combined history, an interesting portrait of the presidents in times when definite decisions are required to take the country through these crises unfolded in the pages of this book.

I don't usually read these types of books as I get enough politics in everyday life. However, my book club selected this read for our September meeting. I was pleasantly surprised to see no political agenda in this book. Instead, Mr. Stephanopoulous looks at the crises faced by each president and how they responded to them in the Situation Room, a centralized center for communication. Stephanopoulos interviewed over one hundred people from different administrations, giving the reader a fascinating view of what happens in the situation room.

This book was part history, part human. Mr. Stephanopoulous gives insight into historical events, as well as, the people who worked through the historical events and the presidents who oversaw them.

I listened to the audiobook, which contained audio clips of historic recordings and interviews Mr. Stephanopoulous conducted.

This was the perfect book to read during the 2024 election cycle (and for Nonfiction November)! I had heard of the Situation Room, and have always been curious about it, and this was such a great way to learn more about some of the bigger moments of American history that took place behind closed doors.

Stephanopoulos takes us behind the scenes to tell us why the Sit Room came to be, and then how various Presidents either avoided or used the room to handle moments of crisis.

To be a fly on the walls of this room!

This was easily digestible and fascinating!

Never thought I'd enjoy a book focused on a room in a basement, but when that room is the White House's Situation Room it's easy to understand why this could be such a compelling book. In a book spanning administrations from Kennedy to Biden, George Stephanopoulos looks at how presidents handle crisis via the Situation Room. Overall a fast and very fun read.
