Maybe the best non-fiction book I’ve read all year, and top five of all books. I HIGHLY recommend listening to the audio for this book because they include actual recordings of the interviews. I’d recommend this book to anyone.
This was a really interesting read. I honestly had no idea what to expect, but as it turns out a history of the "Sit Room", as it was called, was riveting.
Stephanopoulos's work reads like fiction, but is not just a history of the physical space we know of as the Situation Room or WHSR, it is also a detailed study of presidential decision-making in action. His review of documents and extensive interviews provide great context for many of the great historical events of the last 70 or more years - covering the days before the facility existed and the reasons for its creation.
The discussion of the room's creation following the Bay of Pigs debacle sits well in the context of the work of James David Barber and Graham Allison on JFK's ability to adjust his process and help make the Cuban Missile Crisis more successful.

Probably a 5 star read for me. I wasn’t as interested in the earlier presidential situations because I didn’t live through them but the 90s - present experiences were ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
This book was SO GOOD. George S and his team did hundreds of interviews and it was written in a bipartisan, non partisan manner. There are interviews, stories and facts in our history that will make your toes curl. The way in which it was written was engaging, in small stories about what happened in the Situation Room of the White House from Presidents JFK to Biden. Whatever your political affiliation, it is a must-read.

Remarkable, fascinating history of the varied crises dealt with by the presidents from Kennedy onward in the Situation Room in the White House. From the Bay of Pigs through the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we learn both the facts, and the personal impressions of those involved who are interviewed by Stephanopoulos.

Incredibly well researched and a fantastic perspective to see historic events from. The audiobook format is particularly fascinating as it includes actual recordings that are amazing to hear.
this book reminds me of how much we need a good president that can take care of our country. The Trump chapters were so so scrary
