Easy read. I enjoyed all the descriptions of Edinburgh at Christmas. The main characters were a bit annoying and slightly whiny. The dynamic between the sisters was one of my favorite parts and the introduction of Rudy added some interest. I switched to the Audible edition after a few chapters and found that easier to get into the story. The narration was very good on the Audio book.
I enjoy Jenny Colgan books in general but this one was just ok.

I was really excited to read this second installment of the Christmas Bookshop series. Unfortunately, I found this sequel to The Christmas Bookshop a bit disappointing.
Carmen was spirited and engaging in book one, but somehow shifted to very whiny for this novel. She's snarky and rude, and cannot stop complaining about her sex life. By the millionth time she says "sex life," I was rolling my eyes.
Similar to the transformation of Colgan's character Nina between Bookshop on the Corner and Bookshop on the Shore, Carmen became insufferable between these two novels.
I found the first half of the novel a slog, and was frustrated enough to be close to giving up on it. Thankfully, the second half is better, and I enjoyed it more.
The addition of Rudi, and more dialogue with the children, saved the story. I hope that Colgan follows other characters (and leaves Oke and Carmen as secondary bit stories) if there is another novel published in this series.

2.5 I liked the descriptions of Edinburgh, the house and bookstore. I didn’t like the vast majority of the characters. Glad to have gotten it from the library.
