I didn't even realize this was the follow-up of the other Jenny Colgan book I read last year around Christmas, The Christmas Bookshop. I was happy to come back to the characters that I am familiar with and to be in this world of bookshops in Edinburgh at such a wonderful time of the year. Although I think it's a cute little Christmassy book, Carmen’s character was slightly annoying for me in this book. Also, I needed more time with both Carmen and Oke to see how their relationship develops, but the story kind of dragged on till the end, and I was impatient about it. Misunderstanding and miscommunication are not tropes I like in books and movies, but anyway, despite all that, it was still a nice time. If only I could exchange my life with Carmen’s and work in a bookshop in such a magical town during Christmas aah.

A good Christmas read. Don’t think Edinburgh has seen that much snow in decades. I do want to find this house next time I’m in town.
medium-paced
All marketing to the contrary, this is NOT a Christmas book. Nor is it a gentle, cozy read with characters I’d like to befriend (as promised).
All of the delight from the first book and all of the character development is missing here. Carmen is 30 but acting like an immature 15 year old, Sophia enables her, and their unwillingness to engage with the elephant in the room that they’ve been thinking about for 80 pages makes this an unforgivably uninteresting book.

If you enjoyed the first story of Carmen, keep your good experience by skipping this one.
