1950’s London, Hercule Poirot, murder

An okay Christie novel. Very quick read per usual, and fulfills a category for a book challenge.

Quite enjoyable and well-crafted, with a satisfyingly twisty path to the solution.

A few cautions: there are racist characters in the book, but they are generally portrayed as unreasonable and ridiculous; the

murder victim is continually described as "not that bright", "not smart enough to do X", etc. It felt more descriptive than malicious, imo, but some might find it distressing.

One of her more boring ones to me and hard to follow the characters. Weird racial tones as well.

Probably something like 3,25 stars. Generally good, but not as gripping as Christie can be.

Would give it 3.5! It was a good mystery and I was left unknowing until probably 3/4 of the way through, but it didn’t blow me away.

Agatha Christie's books are classics, but oftentimes I'll be struck in the face by such audacious racism--even in books published in the 60s and beyond--I go "woof" and have to take a deep breath before continuing.
