This was EXACTLY what I’d hoped for. It was WILD!
Dark and gritty and messy and heartbreaking. But ultimately, damn those 4 earned their HEA.
As expected, check the content warnings (and then check them again) because there’s so really hard stuff in this one that will definitely be triggering for some.
The world Elliott has created is so vivid. I want to know more and hope we get it!
These 3 men, who’ve been through hell and are as morally grey as they come, would burn down the world for their women and I’m here for it.
Watching the dynamic between each part of the group unfold was such a fun journey.
I laughed at their antics, cried at so many elements and got swoons more than once.
I’d like to order my very own trio please.
Another highly recommended read.

This was every bit as dark and spicy as you'd expect after reading the novella and vengeful gods.

This book was the perfect blend of spice and plot. So much was happening, with the guys, their relationship with Poe, and between them, the whole kidnapping and then the rest of the fuckery that was going on in Noire House.
Angel, my sweet baby. I'll protect this man from anything. His mind, his shows of love, how much he cares! I loved him from the very first moment and not once was I disappointed by him.
Grey, the brat that you are. He charmed me even when I didn't want to like him. His attitude took a minute for me to understand because the poor boy had some trauma. Once I saw him, really saw him, I forgave and forgot anything I could not have liked about him once.
Hawke mf Calliano. This man and I have beef. I would hate fuck him any day, but I would smack him around too. I thought his brother was an ass, but he takes the cake. This man made my eye twitch and I wanted to hit him and kiss him at the same time.
Poe, beautiful and resilient Poe. I probably would have crumbled in her shoes, but she swam on and found her place in the darkness, fought for herself and her men, and deserves all the happiness in the world.
That being said, and as much as I love anything Elliott writes, the possessiveness and desire to keep Poe with them took too long for my liking and I felt like they were just giving up on her. That made me feel a little sad and not like this as much as possible.
Still, this book is a must-read, and not only this book but also, the whole series. And if you ask me, anything that Elliott writes.
Esmeralda is a bad bitch and I need more of her ASAP.
I'm so glad I got an e-arc, thank you, Elliott and Luna Literary!!

Elliot Rose has done it again and has done it so well! I loved Macabre Gods and tbh completely forgot how well Rose could do dark romances! I loved all the main characters and how their relationship all together and individually came together! The individual ones were so unique to each that they made for unforgettable moments in the book! The tie ins with Vengeful Gods was so well done and even though we knew Andreas was going to die the lead up to it was so good! The way this one ended and VG started is quite a seamless time line while still being able to read the books in any order. This one definitely had some darker topics that aren’t for everyone and TWs should be read before starting the story!

Having met Macabre Gods' four MCs in Vengeful Gods,* I was eager to dive into FMC Poe and MMCs Grey, Angel, and Hawke’s novel. The prequel novella Noire Moon revealed how the four MCs met but ended on a (minor) cliffhanger. Although I was eager to dive deep into the main story, I made myself slow down and enjoy the entire audiobook (which includes Noire Moon). Performed in dual-narration by two favourite narrators, Amy Hall and Gabriel Spires, it was a feast for my ears. Hall and Spires did an incredible job bringing the story’s four MCs to life; each is haunted by their pasts, doing their best to survive in the dangerous world of Port Macabre, and I loved seeing them find each other—truly find each other, rather than simply existing together as in the case of the MMCs.
Every book I’ve read by Elliott Rose so far—four novels and three novellas—has been ✨exquisite✨. Her stories, energy, and style just click with me, and this dark, twisty, and ultra spicy romance is no different. I was hooked on the story at every turn and can safely say that this novel is another 5 star banger in my books.

** Thank you so much to Luna Literary Management for the ARC **
I really cannot believe Elliott Rose’s books haven’t arrived in Portugal, I am really hoping that at least her cowboys books can cross over and arrive here because we need this kind of smut! I even read “Noire moon” as it is a prequel to this book and it is as glorious and amazing! But with “Macabre Gods”, Elliott knew exactly what she was doing. That first act is perhaps one of my top five best beginners from this year. It starts not with a bang but with an explosion of emotions! Fear, shock, disgust! Everything in just one act.
“Macabre Gods” is more of a feelings type of book. I believe “Vengeful Gods” has a little more plot and focuses more on that, while this second book focuses a lot on feelings, especially Angel. I truly believe every reader will eat Angel up since he is one of the most sympathetic characters among monsters. He is mute, but he’s the first one to show his appreciation for Poe. He is the first to crack since they take her and he’s the first to develop any kinds of feelings for her. While from the three boys Hawke was the one to suffer the most, Angel and Grey have very complicated family relationships.
This seems to be a recurring theme in the Port Macabre series: family. In the first book, family plays a huge role in the plot as Fox’s family was the center of the catalyst of events, while here we witness how Angel is despised by his family and Grey hates his own. While in the first book we got to see how the boys suffered in the past, here the boys still suffer. Since that suffering comes from within the family, the reader gets to witness how much of a cruel and ruthless house those boys grew up with. The scenes where Angel needs comforting are very emotional. As Grey reaches out to him and helps him through his crisis, letting it show that while they are monsters and ruthless, they have each other and they stick together.
Just like the first Port Macabre, each of the three MMC bring a different kind of strength in the relationship. Angel is, of course, an angelic figure in the middle of all the chaos. He’s the smooth one, the one that takes care of Poe and wants to comfort her, even though he is also sexy as hell and very devious. He’s a giant who wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to Poe and will do anything for her. His POV is one of the best since we get to know his feelings but also his inner voice.
Grey’s reputation as the butcher brings a dangerous, edgy quality. While he and Angel seem to be in a kind of relationship, Grey also navigates his feelings towards Hawke. But he’s definitely the one that knows Hawke the best, and he knows how to play with him through Poe. He has a filthy mouth, but he’s also the one to know how to control Angel.
Hawke is the one in control, the one in charge, but he’s also the one that loses it quicker than the others. He’s the first one to do something with Poe that feels intimate, and while he tries to restrain himself, once he loses control, he explodes. Through his eyes we can see that he really does his best to save everyone he can, and he tries to lie that Poe is someone he cannot save, knowing it will kill him to see her leave them.
While the focus is always the boys and their feelings/stories, Poe is thrust into this world with no knowledge of anything. Foxglove in “Vengeful Gods” knew about the secret society, but Poe is innocent. She was just singled out at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Nevertheless, she allows the boys to explore her darkness and find out her kinks. She had a very sad life and when she understands her feelings and can navigate through that dark world, she’s able to hold her own.
Now don’t get me wrong, “Macabre Gods” is still hot, steamy and spicy as hell. Calling this smut is almost an insult because most spicy scenes are a work of art. Especially the prequel, read “Noire moon”, you won’t regret it, that one is pure erotica and I love it! This is still just like the first book, so if you loved all the unhinged scenes and k!nks, “Macabre Gods” is definitely for you.
