I planned to give this three stars for ~the culture~ but I’m a hater and I just can’t do it. I didn’t like Liam at all and Kamilah was so frustrating. The only characters I liked were Sofi (who deserves better than Leo) and the grandfathers. Kamilah’s other family members were fun to read about sometimes, especially her supremely annoying siblings, but that wasn’t enough for me to ignore how much I did not care about the main characters or the romance. Bonus points for the Bad Bunny mention though.

This was a cute mostly lighthearted book with my favorites tropes: fake dating and forced proximity. It also had friends to enemies to lovers (yeah…all of them). I found Kamilah to be a tough read at the beginning. She was just so…annoying? BUT…she grew on me. I appreciated her character arc. LOVED Liam. LOVED the grandpas. Was confused by several plot points including the scene after the pumpkin patch when Kamilah professes her love and Liam disassociates and then they NEVER talk about it??? And just keep sleeping together?? Girllllll I would be running for the hills. I would have opened that truck door and barrel rolled out of it just to get away from that situation.
Overall though…I needed this read after Onyx Storm. It served its purpose and I’m not not interested in reading the other books in the series about Kamilah’s family.

Pros:
- Proud Puerto Rican heritage displayed.
- Authentic representation of whiskey distilling and tasting processes
- Diverse characters
- Friends to enemies to lovers trope
- Authentic depictions of family dynamics and friendships
Cons:
-
The dick punch early in the story just seemed like a wee bit to much and the excuse for why it happened seemed flimsy. The end result were times when I wasn't sure how their relationship would develop to HEA. It stuck with me for the remainder of the book. - Not a con for me, but for others, there is a decent amount of Spanish used in the book and not all of the phrases are translated so if you don't know Spanish well, you may have to use context clues to figure it out.

It was cute. But man that family. Also—where are my recipes and descriptions of food? I really wish there was more food-love.

This was a pretty fun read. Never really considered myself a big fan of RomCom, but that’s what I pictured the entire time I read this book. Classic tale of two childhood friends who fell in love; their families intertwined because of their grandfathers’ brotherly friendship. I like how it incorporated two different cultures/ethnicities so effortlessly; traditionally Irish and Puerto Rican.
The reader of the audiobook, Valentina Ortiz, did a fantastic job capturing the voice for every character. Made it fun and playful.
