Perhaps I had the wrong expectations for this book and that is the cause of my disappointment. I thought this would go a bit more toward understanding how to help balance the gut, but basically I can boil this book down to- some bacteria is good for us, but we don't know enough about it yet to know exactly which ones or exactly what effects they have. Also, wash your hands.

Clever, funny and chock full of good to know about your gut knowledge. I read a number of books about the enteric nervous system and the science behind the gut- brain connection. This one was the best.

Ik vond vooral het begin van het boek superinteressant, maar de laatste hoofdstukken niet zo. Dat heeft niet echt iets met het boek zelf te maken, maar meer met mijn eigen interessegebieden.

2.5 Wasn't what I was expecting. The writing was easy to understand but I found it to be more of an academic article translated for the average reader rather than something I could use to my benefit.

The best book on the problematic gut that I have read. Written with humour and gives practical advice. Love the simple illustrations.

This is exactly the kind of book about the body I Iike to read. Entertaining, good coverage of the topic for a lay person, doesn't get stuck in technical details.

Had to knock off half a star for this line: "Always use plastic chopping boards because they are easier to clean properly and provide fewer grooves and ridges for bacteria to hide in."

This is the opposite of true. Plastic gets cuts and grooves in it. Wood and bamboo are the recommended materials for hygienic food prep. It's always disturbing when you're new to a subject and the person you're trusting to inform you gets something dead wrong on a topic you are informed about.
