I almost didn't finish this book because I found myself halfway through, struggling to get the motivation to actually read it, because of having felt no particular draw to it. I ended up just slogging through because I wanted to give it a chance in the hopes that the ending of the book saved it all.

But unfortunately it didn't.

The author however does describe mountain climbing in such a well-written way that, as someone with no knowledge, I understood the terminology and other technical aspects.

The twists and turns of Cecily’s climb had me completely enthralled the entire time. This was a thriller with a strong dose of self discovery. Highly recommend!!!

This was stunning. Absolutely loved it! I've never read anything about mountain climbing, let alone a mystery, so I was instantly interested when I read the blurb for this. It did not disappoint! Cecily is so relatable. Like anyone else, she doubts herself and questions things. I was cheering for her the whole book! Her struggle is palpable and realistic--her entire career depends on this climb that may be haunted by a killer. Very suspenseful, the plot development and twists had me second-guessing every character. A perfect balance between technical mountaineering and layman's terms. A truly excellent novel.

4.5 stars!
from the very first page this book had me hooked. this was the first time i had read a book that involved this much tension and action. and it was different from any other thrillers i have read, and that’s because on the mountain everything is so dangerous as is. i was surprised by the way the book turned out. what made the book even better was this was actually a mountain the author has been on, and it was where she wrote parts of the book!

I thought this would be a four star book, but then I read the ending. Oof. The book read like the author had experience with mountaineering, and it turns out she does, which made everything feel so real. The story ruffled my feathers and kept me guessing all the way to the last page.

I have absolutely zero knowledge on mountain climbing, hiking, or even nature.  I hate the cold.  And I’m afraid of heights.  Diving into this book was fun, because I learned so much.  I really like the official terms used.  I have no clue what any of it is but it’s adventurous and I like it.  I love that the author drew inspiration from her own experiences.  I’m just gonna say it: AMY MCCULLOCH IS A BADASS!  This made me want to watch mountain climbing documentaries to learn more!  This book was tense and so interesting.  It’s a bit of a slow burn and more suspense than thriller, but I really enjoyed it.  Catch me watching some climbing documentaries now!  I highly recommended this if you’re looking for a suspenseful vibe.

I really liked this one, but I will say that the pacing was a little slow in the beginning. I also saw the big “twist” at the end coming from pretty much the beginning. That being said, I thought it was a really enjoyable read. The descriptions of climbing at once made me want to try and at the same time, the bigger part of me solidified the decision that I will never climb a mountain.
